i've been grinding for 13 years, and i just found out from my spouse, is it too late now. Thanks for answering !!!!
Are there any ways to stop grinding my teeth!!!?
I had been grinding my teeth for a long time, too...and the only way that I was able to wean myself off grinding was to get fitted for the acrylic mouthpiece the dentist made for me.
It's called a NTI and it fits over the top couple of teeth. You end up taking the grinding motions from your back jaws to your front teeth - which have very weak muscles - so you learn not to grind your back teeth.
The football player mouthpieces DO NOT WORK. You keep grinding and will continue to grind if you take them out for an evening or two. If I sleep without my NTI, I do not grind at all - or I'm just moving my front teeth around in my mouth, without all that pressure on my molars.
The drawbacks to this particular device - you cannot have one if you have braces (unless your dentist wants to make lots more $$$), they are expensive (mine was around $200 after insurance), and they aren't really good for talking - which sometimes is screwy when you get a late night phone call...LOL
Reply:my sis had that problem, either go to your dentist and get this plastic thing calleda grinder or put cotton pads or cotton balls or kleenex between ur teeth
Reply:What do you grind your teeth with?....lol
Goto a dentist swetie.
Reply:Your dentist will take a mold from your teeth and get the dental tech to make a plastic mouth guard. you'll only need one for the bottom teeth. It will help to stop you wearing away the enamal. Also your dentist will be able to advise you of any remedial work to repair damage already done.
Reply:I second that, my sis-in-law went to the dentist and they made her this plastic guard to wear on her teeth at night while she slept.
Reply:oh man. This sure brings back memories. I lived with a man for 15yrs.And he grinded ever single year I was with him.The doctor told h im to get one of those mouth pieces the football players wear.He never did buy one because he said it would be to uncomfortable. I guess you know I moved right over in the extra bedroom.that is the only way I could get any sleep. Butt no its not to late to do anything about it.Just get a mouthpiece. It sure will helpyou not to grind. Take Care.
Reply:the main reason that people suffer this problem is psychologic problems...the other possible reasons are PMC(pre-mature contact) in your teeth or TMJ disorders....but as i said mostly it is because of stressful situations etc...the appliances that dentists give to you is to prevent damaging your teeth but to solve the problem you have to eliminate the main source that is stress....some anti-stress pills are useful...such as Diazepam,Lorazepam,Propranolol, etc according to your doctor`s prescription.
Reply:I've got the same problem. You could try brushing or rinsing your mouth out with mouthwash more often. That seems to help me. Stress, so it seems, it probably why most people grind their teeth. Don't chew gum. This seems to worsen the teeth grinding.

I used Lexapro for 30 days and started Severe teeth pain (grinding)?
Did anyone used Lexapro or other SSRI drug and experienced the same? how to avoid it as I have stop taken it and my doctor can explain the causes.
I used Lexapro for 30 days and started Severe teeth pain (grinding)?
I experienced extreme tooth pain from lexapro. It went away eventually. It is on the list of side effects. Weird! They hurt so bad i wanted to pull them out. It was worth sticking it out though. the headaches and tooth pain went away. I found it strange that on the list of side effects tooth pain was listed for those being treated for anxiety but not for those being treated for depression alone.
Reply:I USE LEXAPRO TOO AND THAT NEVER HAPPEN TO ME...MAYBE TRY A DIFFERENT STRENGTH

I asked my doctor about grinding my teeth at night...?
And he said he could fit me for this guard that goes on my lower teeth at night...but when I saw the estimate I couldn't believe it! 780$ just for that...I heard that there are similar guards that you can get at any pharmacy for cheap, but my dentist said they were "just for sports"...Has any one ever used those instead of spending all that money on having one "specially made"?
I asked my doctor about grinding my teeth at night...?
Ouch.. 780 bucks is pretty steep.
Try the ones at the pharmacy - if they work, then you don't need the specially made ones that will set you back 780.
If the over-the-counter teeth guards don't work, then you may have to fork up the 780 bucks..
Simple..
Oh, by the way, I'll have to charge you $500 bucks for the consultation and advice I gave you. That's with the discount, just for you. ;)
Reply:try it you have nothing to lose
Reply:Well, dentists are doctors. They go to school and everything.
The cost of the guard is because it involves fitting it specifically to your teeth, so that it doesn't affect the shape of your teeth by being badly-formed.
But if you want to just buy a sports mouth guard, get a comfortable one and go for it. What do you have to lose?
Reply:I would say if it is comfortable to wear and it is just for overnight, I would go with the OVer the counter one..I am somewhat quite frugal and I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a guard!!!!!
Now can I have your phone number????? perrty pwease ...
Reply:I do that too--I would get terrible headaches One time I almost went to the hospital it hurt so bad. The cheaper ones that you can get from a pharmacy are only temporary and don't really work that well. If you don't have the money you might look around your area for someplace that offers a co-pay program. They're just like a walk in clinic with a whole group of doctors and dentists who basically donate their time. Usually you only have to pay $10 for each visit there. Or there might be a local church that has free medical care and they might cover the cost for you. Just call your local area hospital and ask if there is anything like that around.

CONSTANTLY having dreams about grinding my teeth?
it's really weird..i can't stop in my dream. i can't even get my mouth to open because i keep clenching my teeth. and when i looked at them in the mirror, they were slowly wearing away and getting really ugly..what does this mean?? i coudln't really talk because of it either. thanks for any help in advanced!
CONSTANTLY having dreams about grinding my teeth?
Maybe it's because you worry too much. Lighten up!
Reply:I think you're watching too much Spongebob.
Reply:You might actually BE grinding your teeth. You should go to the dentist to have it checked out. Or.. you might be afraid of losing a friendship that you are seeing fading away.
Reply:Hmm.... try getting those teeth cover things in like walgreens or walmart, it should go away if you wear them enough!
Reply:it means you grind your teeth at night. called bruxism. many people to do varying degrees, some hardly at all, and some to the extent that it destroys your teeth.
buy a teeth guard to wear at nights. the dentist may make you one to the shape of your teeth if you dont find a decent one in the shops.
as for tackling the problem at the root, its probably associated with stress, annoyance, frustration etc. perhaps theres something in your life that causes one or more of these? basically if you're happy and dont have any stress etc you probably won't grind your teeth. but best to buy that guard first so your teeth dont get any worse.
Reply:grindng your teeth. could be telling you that your too stressed. or maybe a warning letting you know that letting things bug and get to you in the long run will make you ugly. like when you over worry about things you'll grow old and wrinkled. i dunno.
Reply:Could it be that you are actually grinding your teeth? Perhaps you could try one of those devices that stop you from grinding the teeth and see what happens.
Good luck in solving your problem...........
Reply:I too had these types of dreams and found that I ground my teeth as I slept.
This is called bruxism and, unfortunately, it is very common. The best thing to do is to get a mouthguard from your dentist to prevent the inevitable grinding down/cracking teeth and fillings which can lead to all kinds of problems.
On another note, some if not all of this may be caused by the stress in your life. You may need to get trained in handling your stress better.
NOTE: The earlier you get a mouthguard, the better.
Good luck.
Reply:I had the same problem and a friend of mine suggested it had to do with being worried about your financial situation.
Reply:Your grinding your teeth while you sleep. Try to make yourself stop doing it because in your dream your mind is showing you the damage that could happen if it continues. Grinding your teeth does MAJOR DAMAGE to your teeth

How can I stop grinding my teeth at night (other than mouth guards?)?
Can someone also tells me what causes grinding them? I have a mouth guard but I always spit it out. Does anyone have any other suggestions? My house mate says it sounds like I am crumpling up a plastic bottle.
How can I stop grinding my teeth at night (other than mouth guards?)?
My father use to have this problem, when he was under a lot of pressure. I suggest that you relax a little, and before bedtime you shouldn't go on the computer or watch too much tv. Instead, you should relax about and hour before bedtime and day by day, this habit will slip away.
Hope that helped.
Reply:Simple, remove all of your teeth
Reply:Quit sleeping it has worked for me years now!
Reply:Sounds stress related. Remove stress and relax b4 sleeping. try having some lavender infused pouches under ure pillow.
Reply:Stress and tension are often the mian causes.
Bach flower remedies may help, and they are cheap and all natural.
Good luck :)
Reply:its just that u may have worms just try a deworming

How can I stop grinding my teeth at night?
it's not just teeth- this morning I woke up with a painful cut in my mouth.
How can I stop grinding my teeth at night?
This is something that's hard to stop all by yourself. Ask your dentist about it. I suggest you use Night Gaurd. It's this plastic thing you put on your teeth at night. When you grind your teeth, it won't damage your teeth. It might damage the plastic, but then you buy a new one.
Reply:You probably won't stop on your own.
The best thing you can do is have a nightguard made. It's a device that you wear at night to protect your teeth. Talk to your dentist.

Reply:certain medicines, mainly anti-depressants cause bruxism, or grinding. See your dentist for a night mouth guard, it help protect your teeth. If this dint help, check with your dentist.
Reply:some times it can happen from it being to cold, or stress. You can buy special mouth guards at medical stores to help.
Reply:Learn to handle your anger, resentments and frustrations, you will be much better
Reply:you buy mouth block, it;s like a retainer, you could ask a dentist to make it for you and you use it at night before sleep, so when your tooth grind, it will not touch each other, but it touches the acrylic
dont be a stressful person
Reply:There is no way to stop the grinding in your sleep. Your denist can give you a mouth piece or you can buy a cheap one at walmart. Grinding is brought on by stress and tmj it can cause your teeth to weaken even break. you can buy the ones football players use found in the sporting goods cheaper . My advice is to buy one quick before more damage is done to the teeth
Reply:You have a condition most likely referred to as Bruxism, it is very common in males especially younger males. The treatment is a night splint that is easily slipped in to the mouth much like a bite wing xray, it stops your teeth from connecting and hence the grinding is stopped as well. This usually works but in extreme cases the treatment may be more aggressive. Good luck, it use to drive me crazy when my hubby and son would grind their teeth like a polishing stone!
Reply:I agree with want2flybye
also u might have a psychological problem or nervous colon
ask a dentist for the device %26amp; an internalist for ur colon

My husband has begun grinding his teeth in his sleep...?
And it's driving me nuts! It wakes me up and keeps me awake. I try to judge him to see if that will stop it, but it doesn't. Is there anything anyone knows that I can do to help my husband not wear his teeth down? Anyone had any ideas what my cause it? (I have a feeling it's stress indeuced...) Thank you!!!
My husband has begun grinding his teeth in his sleep...?
It has a name... bruxism. One of the most common causes is stress, particularly in a case like this where it has only recently started.
If allowed to continue untreated it can cause many long term problems. You might want to take a look at this site ... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bruxism...
for more information.
Many times the source of stress cannot be readily removed, but there are steps that can be taken to reduce our reactions to it. Check with your doctor. The guard can help prevent damage, but the key is really in dealing with the stress that is causing it.
Good luck!
Reply:i grind my teeth too
Reply:Normally related to having some heavy stuff on his Mind!
A Glass of Good Red wine with his evening meal should help his sleep!(Just a Glass..Med-Large)
Reply:Call your dentist. There are mouthguards that he can wear at night to prevent grinding. They mold them to the exact shape of the front of his teeth and are very comfortable. Good Luck!
Reply:haha, I was wondering why you'd judge him for such a trivial habit.
But seriously, there are mouth-guards you can get for him that help with the grinding. I also grind my teeth in my sleep and have been looking into these mouth protectors. Talk to your dentist about them.
Reply:it is stress related. if he doesn't either solve the stress part or get a retainer from the dentist he will actually start to crack his back molars.
I know this first hand as I had this issue and cracked 7 of my back molars only to be later replaced with implants.
best way is to figure out the stress and remove it ASAP. cause its doing more damage than just the teeth.....his stomach, blood pressure, etc are all being affected as well.
Reply:sorry have not idea too.. my sister does it all the time and it drives me nuts.. she says she dont even know she grinds her teeth..does yr husband know about his this? mabye u should tell him go dentist or something.. anyway if u found any answers im me ok.
Reply:Get him a mouth guard. You can get them in the sports dept. at stores like Walmart for $1.00. The dentist can custom make one as well but they are expensive. Do it ASAP as he can wreck his teeth!
Reply:my huby does it to, but hes getting some of his teeth replaced with partials and im hoping he stops it then bc he says he does it bc his teeth are sencitive and its like rubbing a wound
Reply:go to dentist for a mouth piece, grinding teeth leads to tmj that is very painful
Reply:buy him a nipple
Reply:Go to the nearest Drug Store and buy him a "night guard", it is a common problem. Your husband has too much stress and in his sleep, while the brain tries to reboot, certain chemical imbalances are interfering. He could see a Naturalpathic, or he could need something as simple as a natural "detox". Toxins build up in your system and if he is already over the edge, work, finances, children, even worried about you, the "toxins" build up and knock the **** out of your immune system. Thus the night "teeth grinding" - do as I have suggested, because in a very short time, he will ware the enamel off his teeth, set his "bite" off and fillings will begin to break and fall out! Trust me, I am a "retired" Oral Surgeon Assistant and Teacher. My only other suggestion, if you don't do that is, sleep in the KIDS room! LOL!
Reply:He should go to the dentist. They can give him a device to wear at night that will prevent this. Some people just do it, but it can cause wearing of the teeth, as well as migranes. My ex mother-in-law used to do that and eventually she ended up with severe migranes when she was awake, so a dental visit may help him, and you, tremendously.
Reply:Get him a mouth guard or Phone the dentist and ask them what things could help to get him for doing this . But if you wait for a day or two he will not doing it or just make him sleep on a different side of the bed
Reply:You can buy a mouth guard from your pharmacy or dentist. This will stop him from gringding.
