Teeth Grinding Clenching Ask The Dentist Richard Winter Question:

Pediatric Bruxism - Infant Noisey Teeth Grinding: I have an 11 month old boy.

He has four teeth on top and three on the bottom. He has been grinding his teeth since he was about 9 months old. He is grinding his teeth down.

Sometimes he uses so much force, it sounds like he is going to crack his teeth. Is there anything I can do to help him save his teeth? ...Visitor from Michigan

Answer:

There is nothing to be done at this age. If you are truly concerned and there is substantial wear on the child's teeth, you need to go to a pedodontist or children's dentist to examine them.

Usually, Mother Nature regulates the wear on infants to make sure they are able to successfully last, til the next set arrives.
Reply:yeah well i was at the store and i seen this thing. it looks like a mouth gard for foot ball but its for when your asleep. i think its a night gard for people that grind there teeth soo go chek it out. like at target ;]
Reply:Both of my children did that i think it's just a stage they go through
Reply:my daughter use to do that. walmart sells a teething ring that vibrates when they bite it. Try that it fixed her.
Reply:Well just give him something to bite. I use to give my little one crackers when he started doing that he seem to love the noise it makes when he's grinding them. he was about like the same age. that only lasted like a week and then he stop dooing it. I don't think you should worry about it? good luck!!!
Reply:go to the doctors and he will do something about it
Reply:let him chew on a frozen bagel, or a teething ring. don't get worked up on the baby teeth... it's the major 2nd set that you need to get worried about. all of your teeth are already in your mouth, and they come only when they are ready to. kids lose their teeth young, so don't get too worried. just try things to get him to stop.
