Why have i been grinding my teeth so badly lately?
I have this problem, the scientific term for which is bruxism. While one's natural jaw alignment is sure to be a factor, I find that there is a very positive link between my stress level and my grinding my teeth. I highly doubt braces will solve the problem. In fact, my sister got braces and they didn't do anything to make her stop grinding. It had once gotten so bad that the dentist told her she was grinding her teeth flat.

The best solution for this problem is to get fitted with a night guard. it won't necessarily make you stop grinding your teeth; however, it will prevent you from damaging your teeth. What's more, you don't have to use it every night; only when you are so stressed that you feel you are liable to grind. Another thing to do is to listen to relaxation tapes before you go to bed at night. The dentist advised my sister to listen to "nature sounds" for 15 minutes before going to bed. This helped her problem considerably. In the same vein, you never want to lie down for sleep and just pass out. This indicates that you are exhausted. If you go to bed exhausted, the likelihood that you will grind your teeth will shoot way up. This is one strategy I employed to treat my problem. It helped.

Good luck in your efforts to overcome your manage your bruxism. It's good that you are tackling this problem early.
