Do some doctors/dentist perscribe pills for teeth grinding or clenching your teeth at night?
The reason meds are usually not prescribed for grinding, believe it or not, is that one of the side effects of many anti-anxiety or muscle relaxants is grinding the teeth! The following meds have been implicated in grinding of teeth: Prozac, Effexor, Paxil, Zoloft, Luvox, Celexa and other SSRI anti-depressant or psychotrophic drugs.

A nightguard for bruxing is usually going to give you the most relief. Some people have had some success with a prescription of Ativan which is a milder and shorter acting drug to take than Valium.
Reply:they can give you a bite guard

or muscle relaxers
Reply:I'm not sure about medicine for teeth grinding, but I know that dentists will recommend a dental guard if you are a habitual teeth grinder to protect the surface of your teeth from getting worn down.
Reply:Not usually... but you can have an occlusal guard (nightguard) made for you by your dentist. They also sell them in stores, but they aren't custom-fitted like the ones you get from your dentist..
Reply:when i first got told by my dentist, he gave me valium for about 2 weeks before he could see me again, and then i got more until i had my splint made.
