I have heard there are special braces you can buy but does anyone know something that can completely stop it? Thanks for your help in this matter.
Is there any cure for nighttime teeth grinding?
The answers you've received so far are quite accurate, and a mouth guard may be a quick and inexpensive solution (I kept spitting mine out in the middle of the night because it wasn't formed to my mouth).
But something else to think about is WHY you're grinding. For some people, it's TMJ. For some it's stress - are you under a lot of pressure right now? If so, hopefully you are working on a way to get rid of the stress; then the grinding stops on its own.
Or have you had dental work in the last few months, and perhaps your bite has changed? I'm working on this myself right now because I had a new crown installed, and it's just the tiniest bit higher than my other teeth, even though I've had several bite adjustments.
I'm a grinder too... and have clenched and ground my teeth hard enough to loosen a crown, and I actually cracked a tooth once, so I know what you're going through.
Good luck!!
Reply:You can get a mouth guard from your local sporting goods store, and it will help keep your teeth from being ground down. Bruxism (teeth grinding) is often due to TMJ disorder. The TMJ is the joint where your jaw is connected to the skull. See a chiropractor or dentist who specializes in TMJ.
Reply:The only thing I know of is a mouth piece that you sleep with. It is about $500 if you go to a dentist and they fit it specifically to your teeth. You can also go to CVS or Walgreens and they sell a generic one that you can try. It's a lot cheaper, like $10.
