How do you prevent grinding your teeth in your sleep?

My boyfriend grinds his teeth in his sleep and it keeps me up alot. Now my 6 year old is starting to do the same thing, alot! What can I do for at least my son to keep him from doing this? Any suggestions helpful! Thanks!

How do you prevent grinding your teeth in your sleep?
Ask your dentist. They can custom make a retainer that is worn only at night and prevents teeth grinding which can cause serious dental and jaw problems if left untreated. Good luck!
Reply:Most drug stores (even Walmart) have these bit thingys that you can buy to help lessen the impact of teeth grinding (also known as bruxism). Not sure they make them for a child that young though. The dentists can also provide the person with a device that helps too. Besides being really icky sounds it can cause permanment damage to the teeth
Reply:There are retainers you can get from your dentists that are just for wearing during the night to prevent grinding.

Ask your dentist about this, they are not overly expensive.

Good luck, hope you can get some sleep!
Reply:Grinding teeth at night. Ummmm i don't know! Does he grind it alot?
Reply:Get help from the dentist, esp for your son. This can ruin teeth in growing kids. They can make you a bite guard for him to wear at night. Your boyfriend needs one too, but if he has damaged his teeth, it is already done.
Reply:You could go to the dentist and have a night guard made for them, its not to expensive and will save you so much money in the long run, do either of them complain of headaches?? It can save their teeth in the long run, because over time they will more then likely start to crack and break from them grinding in the night.
Reply:Your boyfriend can get a night guard from his dentist. Getting a night guard will stop the grinding from damaging his teeth. Your son is to young for a night guard, so, the only thing to do is observe. I work for a children's dentist and we see about 50 to 60 patients daily, and most of the children around your sons age grind their teeth. Some of the children grind their teeth down to the nerve, but because it's a slow process, most of the time, they have no symptoms.
