How can I stop grinding my teeth when asleep?

Apparantly I snore and grind my teeth pretty loudly while sleeping. While I'm not too bothered about the snoring, I'm getting pretty worried about the grindage of my teeth. Why do I do this and can can I prevent doing it again?

How can I stop grinding my teeth when asleep?
They sell mouth guards for teeth grinding at your local pharmacy or wal-mart...check it out!!
Reply:A dentist has ways go see him.
Reply:I use a mouth guard when I sleep to keep me from grinding. Good Luck!
Reply:they make a mouth piece for this problem. close to what football players use .
Reply:it's an unconscious habit. they have teeth guards that you can wear while sleeping. talk to a dentist.
Reply:I wish I knew the answer to this one, my husband does the same thing and it's driving me nuts !!! if you get to find out the answer, PLEASE let me know, apart from him having all his teeth out or wearing a horses bit, I don't know what else to do. !
Reply:You need to get a mouth gaurd but since you mention the snoring too you should get checked out for sleep apnea as these can be some of the signs of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a serious condition so see your doc to and ask about getting this checked out.
Reply:wear a night gaurd, its a sof plastic that u wear when you go to sleep.

p.s.difficult to snore and grind your teeth at the same time
Reply:there is a clear mouth guard you can get for this.. my grand-daughter got one. buy over the counter in a

rite aid store.
Reply:Try putting a tooth guard on while you sleep or either try to eat something very sour and chew it, either your very nervous all day and too much thinking. So i would advise you to stay clam all day and think positive. If this grinding teeth won't stop try psychological sleep theapy or just stay awake all night??
Reply:When a person grinds their teeth it's either because their bite is out of alignment or due to stress. You can buy a night guard at the pharmacy or go to your dentist and have one specially made.
Reply:I do this too! I had a mouth guard fitted, you can get your dentist to do it, so I wear it at night. It doesn't stop you grinding, but it protects your teeth from damage and reduces the noise. To help you stop grinding, try and relax before you sleep.
Reply:i used to grind my teeth pretty bad when i was a nipper but i grew out of this so apart from sleeping with a sock in your mouth i think its one of those things you just 'stop' doing.

have you thought about using herbal remedies? things like lavender make you sleep more comfortably and deeply, this may help as if you fall into a better sleep you may not fidget and grind your teeth so much.
Reply:take them out , put them in a glass of water at the side of the bed, problem solved
Reply:ask you dentist for a soft lower splint
Reply:Take them out before you go to bed
Reply:wear a mouth garud
Reply:There are mouth guards they sell. My ex was too cheap to by one so he used his mouth peice from sports. I don't suggest that though...he was a looser. Go to a dentist and let them know what your problem is. Good luck and sweet dreams.
Reply:my grandma told me asks someone to use a slipper n slap on ur mouth while u're sleeping n grinding ur teeth.....its true, not teasing u..
Reply:You won't be able to stop it as you're asleep so you'll be doing it unconsciously !!!.

Go to the dentist and ask them to supply you with a bit or gumshield type item that you can simply put in your mouth before bedtime.

This will prevent your two rows of teeth from grinding together.
Reply:GO TO THE DENTIST AND ASK TO BE FITTED FOR A "BITE-PLANE" IT LOOKS LIKE A FOOTBALL MOUTHPIECE, JUST NOT AS BULKY. I WEAR ONE EVERY NIGHT AND SOMETIMES DURING THE DAY WHEN OVERLY STRESSED OR WHILE DRIVING LONG PERIODS OF TIME. I'VE BEEN USING ONE FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS NOW. I'M ON MY 5TH. IF YOU GET HEADACHES, IT WILL REALLY HELP WITH THAT TOO!
Reply:What is the Definition of Bruxism?

Bruxism is the habit of grinding the teeth together, typically at night.

Although the grating noise may be annoying for a spouse or sibling, teeth grinding is not something to become worried about.

Description of Bruxism

Contrary to popular belief, chronic teeth grinding will rarely wear down the teeth, nor does bruxism have a link to temporomandibular disorder (TMJ).

Bruxism is thought to be transmitted genetically and occurs in about 20 percent of people.

There is some evidence that emotional or physical stress can lead to nocturnal teeth grinding, which may be a way to relieve tension. People who exhibit temporary bruxism also toss and turn in their sleep, perspire heavily, and exhibit other symptoms typical of stress that are not specifically related to bruxism.

Early detection of this condition can prevent consequences such as headaches, muscle pain, temporomandibular joint dysfunction and permanent tooth damage.
Reply:you have TMJ probably, its a jaw problem. i have it too. if you mess up your teeth from grinding, insurance wont pay to have them fixed because its "preventable" by getting a mouthpiece. go to your dentist to get fitted for one.
Reply:take them out, or sleep with a table tennis ball in your mouth.
Reply:maybe try using a gum shield if nothing else it will protect your teeth
Reply:Check out TMJ.com the answer MY OPINIO gave you will find is not correct bruxism and TMJ are connected I should know have had and still having serious problems with this if you check out my questions you will see a gum guard will only protect your teeth and stop the noise not the damage it causes Good Luck
Reply:Go to the "Sleepapnia " site they sell devices that are fitted to you ( like gumshields ) that stops you snoring and grinding your teeth !
