It sounds like you have a very thorough dentist which really is a good thing. The gum shield needs to be made specifically for you so I am afraid there is no way to get one cheaper. Grinding your teeth can be damaging to your teeth and can cause headaches because of the constant grinding and tension. You should get one if your dentist has advised this.
Reply:i had one of these, but it was free on the NHS, why do you have to pay for it ?

It is better to care for your health
Reply:yes go to the chemist and buy a cheep tooth whitening system where you have to make your own bleaching impression tray in the kit and just wear this at night its exactly the same thing just a rubber shield in the shape of your teeth but you only need to wear it on the top set to stop you grinding.
Reply:my son got his free on NHS see if your dentist will let you pay in instalments
Reply:i got one free on the nhs.
Reply:Used to play rugby :0)

Stick it in hot water, bite it and you have saved £40.

Any decent sports store.

Reply:I got one for free when I was active duty AF. First off is that they have to pure some sort of plaster of paris in your mouth to get the molds. Gags something terrible! Bottom line is that I never use the "custom casted shields" the dentist made for me! You would be better off going to a sporting goods store and purchasing a mouth guard used in football! Like five bucks max, no gagging, and costs about 200 percent less than the shield option!
Reply:Hello, while I do understand that you want to get a night guard to help deal with your gritting and grinding issue, let me suggest that you also get involved with dealing with what's causing your gritting and grinding. The gritting and grinding is the outward symptom that relates to something going on inside you emotionally and we call that Stress. When you are faced with what ever issue is triggering your stress, your physical reaction is to grit and grind. Stress is generated by one or a combination of the following six areas: Money, Marriage, Health, Sex, Employment and Self Esteem. Here's a couple of examples of stress triggering, you get up and it's time to go to work, you may not be happy with your work environment and you begin to wish you had some where else to go, those feelings can trigger stress reactions. Or, lets say you learned that your Mom or best friend has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, your health isn't on the line, but your emotionally attached to this person and that can trigger stress...What I'm saying is that you may or may not have a personal involvement in one of the six areas but are emotionally attached to someone who is.Then again, you may be very personally involved in one or more of the six areas. In any event they are very unlikely to go away on their own..if that were so you wouldn't be gritting and grinding now.

So how do you deal with the Stress?, you get professional help. You see a professional counselor and he or she will help you identify the area that's stressing you, if you don't already know, and he or she will guide you through learning what you can do to solve the stress issues. It's amazing how many people have serious stress and don't know where it's coming from or how to deal with it. I once had a lady patient come in to my dental office with obvious stress and had no idea where it was coming from. One look at her mouth and I immediately knew she had serious stress issues. I referred her to a psychologist friend and at the end of two months of counseling she came into my office and announced that her stress would be solved in exactly ten day's., I asked how she could pin point the time frame, she responded, "that's when I file the divorce papers."...Turned out she had been seriously verbally abused for some 15 years and had now found the courage to solve the problem through counseling....Anyway, mouth guards are pretty much the same cost wise no matter where you go. My concern is that you will rely on the mouth guard and not deal with why you are needing it. Life's way to short to live with unnecessary Stress. Good luck and I wish you well.
