Mouthguards made by a dentist to do not hurt and don't get in the way of your breathing if you happen to breathe through your mouth at night. Grinding your teeth and NOT using a mouth guard hurts. (Misread your question.) I grind my teeth and my uncle (a dentist) gave me one specially made for my mouth. I have cracks in my teeth because of the grinding. You can literally grind your teeth down to nothing if you never get a mouth guard. (My aunt did). The cracks make me more susceptible to cavities, plus, I could actually split my teeth beyond repair if the cracks get worse. Another thing to do is make sure you don't crunch down on ice or hard candy. They do the same kind of damage over time.
Does wearing a night/ mouth guard to prevent teeth grinding hurt?
No. It prevents the grinding though.
Reply:Will take some getting use to- will not hurt though.
Reply:No
Reply:it doesnt hurt, but it takes some getting used to.
Reply:Depends on the mouth guard. If you're using one from your dentist, one of those thin ones, then you should barely feel it. If it's one from a sports store that you have to boil yourself and stuff, then it won't hurt--you'll just have to get used to it. If it's uncomfortable, try trimming it down a bit and in the back. Don't worry, after a week, you won't even notice it's there. :)
Reply:No, it's like having 50 packs of half chewed bubble gum in your mouth. It's not bad, takes some time to get used to and shocks the heck out of someone that doesn't know about it and tries to kiss you!!!
Reply:Not as much as the grinding! You could start with one of the cheap ones that you buy at any store like Walmart to get an idea of what they feel like. If you can afford to get one custom made for you, it will be the most comfortable option and smaller than the ones made for the masses. I used one for a few years that was made for me and it didn't bother me at all.
Reply:They dont hurt but I couldnt get use to wearing one, after about a month I quit trying .Good luck to you.
Reply:doesnt hurt just have to get use to it its a little uncomfortable. till you get use to it. like the football players they get use to wearing it.
