Are there any ways to stop grinding my teeth!!!?
I had been grinding my teeth for a long time, too...and the only way that I was able to wean myself off grinding was to get fitted for the acrylic mouthpiece the dentist made for me.

It's called a NTI and it fits over the top couple of teeth. You end up taking the grinding motions from your back jaws to your front teeth - which have very weak muscles - so you learn not to grind your back teeth.

The football player mouthpieces DO NOT WORK. You keep grinding and will continue to grind if you take them out for an evening or two. If I sleep without my NTI, I do not grind at all - or I'm just moving my front teeth around in my mouth, without all that pressure on my molars.

The drawbacks to this particular device - you cannot have one if you have braces (unless your dentist wants to make lots more $$$), they are expensive (mine was around $200 after insurance), and they aren't really good for talking - which sometimes is screwy when you get a late night phone call...LOL
Reply:my sis had that problem, either go to your dentist and get this plastic thing calleda grinder or put cotton pads or cotton balls or kleenex between ur teeth
Reply:What do you grind your teeth with?....lol

Goto a dentist swetie.
Reply:Your dentist will take a mold from your teeth and get the dental tech to make a plastic mouth guard. you'll only need one for the bottom teeth. It will help to stop you wearing away the enamal. Also your dentist will be able to advise you of any remedial work to repair damage already done.
Reply:I second that, my sis-in-law went to the dentist and they made her this plastic guard to wear on her teeth at night while she slept.
Reply:oh man. This sure brings back memories. I lived with a man for 15yrs.And he grinded ever single year I was with him.The doctor told h im to get one of those mouth pieces the football players wear.He never did buy one because he said it would be to uncomfortable. I guess you know I moved right over in the extra bedroom.that is the only way I could get any sleep. Butt no its not to late to do anything about it.Just get a mouthpiece. It sure will helpyou not to grind. Take Care.
Reply:the main reason that people suffer this problem is psychologic problems...the other possible reasons are PMC(pre-mature contact) in your teeth or TMJ disorders....but as i said mostly it is because of stressful situations etc...the appliances that dentists give to you is to prevent damaging your teeth but to solve the problem you have to eliminate the main source that is stress....some anti-stress pills are useful...such as Diazepam,Lorazepam,Propranolol, etc according to your doctor`s prescription.
Reply:I've got the same problem. You could try brushing or rinsing your mouth out with mouthwash more often. That seems to help me. Stress, so it seems, it probably why most people grind their teeth. Don't chew gum. This seems to worsen the teeth grinding.
