I asked my doctor about grinding my teeth at night...?

And he said he could fit me for this guard that goes on my lower teeth at night...but when I saw the estimate I couldn't believe it! 780$ just for that...I heard that there are similar guards that you can get at any pharmacy for cheap, but my dentist said they were "just for sports"...Has any one ever used those instead of spending all that money on having one "specially made"?

Ouch.. 780 bucks is pretty steep.

Try the ones at the pharmacy - if they work, then you don't need the specially made ones that will set you back 780.

If the over-the-counter teeth guards don't work, then you may have to fork up the 780 bucks..

Simple..

Oh, by the way, I'll have to charge you $500 bucks for the consultation and advice I gave you. That's with the discount, just for you. ;)
Reply:try it you have nothing to lose
Reply:Well, dentists are doctors. They go to school and everything.

The cost of the guard is because it involves fitting it specifically to your teeth, so that it doesn't affect the shape of your teeth by being badly-formed.

But if you want to just buy a sports mouth guard, get a comfortable one and go for it. What do you have to lose?
Reply:I would say if it is comfortable to wear and it is just for overnight, I would go with the OVer the counter one..I am somewhat quite frugal and I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a guard!!!!!

Now can I have your phone number????? perrty pwease ...
Reply:I do that too--I would get terrible headaches One time I almost went to the hospital it hurt so bad. The cheaper ones that you can get from a pharmacy are only temporary and don't really work that well. If you don't have the money you might look around your area for someplace that offers a co-pay program. They're just like a walk in clinic with a whole group of doctors and dentists who basically donate their time. Usually you only have to pay $10 for each visit there. Or there might be a local church that has free medical care and they might cover the cost for you. Just call your local area hospital and ask if there is anything like that around.
