I've never had this problem before. I grind my teeth till my jaws start to hurt. What should I do to correct it?
For the past week or so I've been grinding my teeth. What is causing me to do this?
A lot of times it's stress. If you're awake and doing it, make an effort to stop. If you're doing it in your sleep then see your dentist and have him or her make you a mouth guard to sleep in.
Reply:Stress is causing it. Get a massage.
Reply:Grinding teeth is know as bruxism and is a neurotic behavior usually due to stress although some people like myself have done it since childhood. A dentis can prescribe a mouthpiece to wear while you sleep but if this is new, i would see a physician. You may be anxious and there is a medicaition called inafranil(sp)that can help. But like the other answers it boils down to stressl
Reply:normanly caused by worry
Reply:Stress, new meds, recent dental work, neuromuscular disorder due to chemical imbalance.....see a dentist or an oral surgeon
Reply:Mental stress. Please relax. Apply a relaxing gel like relaxyl to the pain ful muscles on the side of your face. Take a sleeping pill very low dose, dizepam 0.5mg or something. If this continues show an orthodontist for a mouth guard. Sort out the problems in life with the person involved or a councellor.Take a break.
Reply:It actually is stress. When grinding your teeth constantly it can cause your jaw to dislocate and a disease called TMJ. Normally you do alot of the grinding at night when you don't realize it. What can happen is it can wear away your teeth to where you will need fillings. You might want to visit your dentist and have your teeth checked, especially if your jaw starts to hurt, that is one of the first signs of tmj. He might have you start using a night guard to prevent the pain in your jaw and the grinding of your teeth. Trust me it will help you in the long run so your teeth won't become extremely sensitive.
