Can you get something to help you against grinding your teeth?

My huspand grind his teeth while sleeping and it is not a pleasent noise!

Can you get something to help you against grinding your teeth?
Yes, go buy a plastic mouth guard (like the ones the use in sports), but be sure it is the kind you can boil and fit to his mouth specifically. He should wear it at night. Officially its called a brux guard. If he keeps grinding the way he is now, he will cause damage to his teeth and bone loss. I guarantee the brux guard will stop it. Don't let the dentist convince you to pay for their overpriced versions either.
Reply:Yes there are mouth guards for this. Try your local drug store or get one from the Dentist.
Reply:They sell the Night Guard. It relatively cheap too.
Reply:He can get an impression of his teeth made by his dentist. The will go and make a set of mouth guards that he can wear at night so his teeth don't grind
Reply:I don't know if you're familiar with WalMart, but they sell these plastic molds that fit to your mouth to prevent teeth grinding ($20). My daughter has the same problem.
Reply:You are right about that. LOL

Go to the drug store and by him a mouth guard. You put it in boiling water and when it has softened (and cooled a little) he puts it in his mouth and bites down and holds it there till it's hard again and conforms to his mouth. Then he wears it at night and he won't grind anymore. They don't cost much---go get one.
Reply:Hi. Your husband might want to visit a dentist, where he can get something called an occlusal splint which he can wear at night to keep his teeth from grinding together.

He might also have TMJ, which his dentist can help diagnose and treat.

Reply:absolutely... a mouth guard works... you can get generic ones for any1 at walmart but if you want a fitted one.. to fit your husbands mouth he needs to go to his dentist to have it fitted for his mouth... simple procedure
Reply:Cut a flipflop in half and carefully insert it while he sleeps, this should do the job.
Reply:yes you can by visiting your dentist and he or she will take impressions of your teeth, then make a guard / shield to wear at night
Reply:Your local drugstore has a plastic mouth guard that you mold to your own jaw, it is maybe ten bucks. If you get it at the dentist it costs a lot more, maybe $300 or so... my son has the store bought one %26amp; said it really helped him.
Reply:Go to the dentist and he/she will make a mould that you can put in his mouth at night that stops it. I've had one, although I bit through it one night, the newer types are more ply-able and easier to get used to
Reply:Temporary solutions are the mouldable mouthguards, made of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), which are like sports mouthguards, off the shelf. I don't recommend them as they can potentially cause biting problems or worse in future.

Custom splints made by dental surgeons are the gold standard in bruxism. They are balanced and in harmony with the bite of the opposing jaw, and are regularly monitored by the local dental surgeon for signs of improvement. This is the most critical part of bruxism management.

Bruxism, or grinding, is usually linked to stressful episodes in life, and reduction of these may help.

Please consult your local dental surgeon for more info.
Reply:Yes you can. Go to your local drug store. They have mouth guards that you soak in hot water and then fit into your mouth that prevent you from grinding in your sleep. He may also want to talk to the dentist about it. Grinding your teeth can weaken them causing them to break off while eating and also can lead to arthritis in his jaw later in life.

Good luck!!! I know it's aggravating. My ex lived through me doing it for 9 years!!!
Reply:Its the most common sign of worm infestation, you can take any all purpose deworming agent in consultation with your G.P.
Reply:The question is really - why is he grinding his teeth. He must be tense or stressed out over something. A relaxation CD listened to daily would probably help him destress.
Reply:Get a mouth guard, I have the same trouble so i bought one at big-5. It helps me so much that i have two. Or you can ask your dentist about night guard.
Reply:take away his coke and e's
Reply:Ask your dentist they get sample stuff which they hand out for trials.
Reply:talk to your dentist
Reply:Yes, you can get a mouth guard from the store for about a $1.00 or so. You can find them in the sporting good or the tooth brush isle. good luck.
Reply:yes...ask your dentist for a pvc bite splint!...it works for me!!
Reply:A gum guard will protect your teeth and stop the noise but you can get TMJ very painfull if you check my questions you will see you can have big problems please take care
Reply:There ARE other reasons, such as stress, but many people grind or clench their teeth because they do not meet exactly correctly. If your teeth do not meet correctly, they cause your jaw to shift slightly out of the joint to compensate for the mismatch in your bite. A bite appliance - when properly made - will eliminate the influence of the teeth over the position the bones take in the TMJ. It will allow your jaw to rest in the balanced (and comfortable) position where it belongs. After wearing an appliance for a while, your dentist might suggest some adjustments to your bite, slightly altering (grinding) the surfaces so that they no longer have any interferences to closing with your jaw in the proper position.
Reply:amphetamines - reverse psychology
Reply:If you get him to go to the dentist they'll be able to fit him for a mouthguard. Its not expensive babe. The sound of teeth grinding makes me cringe... make him go today x x x
Reply:Perhaps you could get him to sink his teeth into an apple before he goes to sleep thus keeping his teeth safely out of grinding distance. Possibly you could remove his teeth, remove him to another bedroom or replace him entirely. The normal antidote though is for him to wear a rubbery gum shield type thing but this is a bit of a passion killer. Probably though the cause is anxiety or worry so perhaps you can look at the cause rather than the manifestation of the problem.
