My five year old brother has been grinding his teeth in his sleep. At first, he only did it when he was mad, but then it became a everyday habit. Now, he dosen%26#039;t do it during the day, but at night. is there anything I can do to stop it?
How Do I stop my 5 year old brother from grinding his teeth?
You can try the mouth guard but most dentists will tell you if he still has his baby teeth, just let him grind. My son has this problem and our dentist told us his baby teeth can be ground down to his gums before he%26#039;ll ever hit a nerve or anything.
Reply:He needs a mouth gard. the dentist can give you one. Its good that you catch and tackle this now.
Reply:there really isnt anything that can stop him. buy one of those football mouth gards for his size to help save his teeth and have him wear it in his sleep and it will help muffle the sound as well.
Reply:Yes, go get him a nighguard or doctors call it a night splint. Make sure youre on top of this, because it can lead to fractures in the teeth or even chipping. My husband and mother have them. There are cheap ones at sports stores (they look like mouth guards when you%26#039;re playing sports) or if thats too big, then a doctor can make one that%26#039;s a custom fit.
Reply:When children grind their teeth, its usually a sign that they have intestinal worms. You have to tell your parents or guardian.Worm medicine are usually sold over the counter without a prescription. For safety measures they can probably take him to the doctor and get him checked out.
Reply:What you can do is inform your parents or guardian. It is not up to you as his sister to fix things like this, it is their job as parents. That being said however, one thing you could suggest to them is not to let him have drinks containing caffeine, or a lot of sugar late in the day. I used to grind mine at night w/o even knowing it, until my dentist said to cut out drinking coffee in the afternoon. That cured it.

How to stop teeth grinding?
Make and appointment and go see your dentist. He or she will take impressions of your teeth and make a special mouth guard for you.
How to stop teeth grinding?
hmmm....... tough. Just whenever you wanna grind your teeth, put your fingers in your mouth and chew on em%26#039;
Reply:You should, get one of these plates that have the mold of your teeth in it and wear it to bed. My Grandma has one snd she said that is works like a charm(:-)
Reply:main thing go to denist if a store dont have them its a special mouth peice it helps
Reply:You can get a special mouthguard made by your dentist, and that does work (my mom uses one), but it%26#039;s pricey.
You can also buy a cheap sports mouthguard at a store, and mold it to the sizes of your teeth and mouth. It%26#039;s easy to do (you%26#039;ll be done with the molding procedures in 20 minutes at the most!)
Also, if you%26#039;ve ever had braces, you can go back to wearing your retainers. They tend to help me with my grinding.
Last but not least, for about $20 you can buy a dental mouthguard at a regular old store (I think that Walmart carries them). Still, I would try a $3 sports mouthguard first before buying any expensive dental mouthguard.
If after these ideas, you still grind your teeth... see a dentist and get a custom mouthguard.

How to solve teeth grinding problem while sleeping.?
Teeth grinding is medically known as bruxism:
How to Treat Bruxism
If you suspect that you suffer from bruxism see your dentist. They can tell you if your symptoms are in fact due to bruxism. In most cases, they can create a custom mouth guard for you to wear while you sleep. The mouth guard takes the punishment that your teeth would normally endure during your bruxism. This will minimize the damage associated with bruxism.
Additionally, your dentist may help you properly position your teeth and tongue so as to reduce your bruxism. Reducing alcohol intake is also advisable since alcohol has been shown to worsen bruxism.
It is now well known that stress and anxiety play the major role in causing bruxism. If you suffer from bruxism try to more effectively manage the stress in your life. By carefully monitoring and controlling the stress you can often dramatically reduce bruxism.
How to solve teeth grinding problem while sleeping.?
my sister got a mouth guard from her dentist. she doesnt have to wear it anymore and it stopped the grinding
Reply:First steps for treatment include over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (e.g. ibuprofen or naproxen). Stick to softer breakfast foods like yogurt or oatmeal rather than tough-to-chew choices like bagels or apples. Practicing stress reduction techniques (e.g. biofeedback, massage) and abstaining from evening caffeine consumption may also help.
While you can purchase an over-the-counter mouth guard at your local drugstore to prevent grinding, you should make an appointment with your dentist to evaluate whether you have evidence of dental damage. If so, your dentist may recommend a custom-fitted mouth guard and a muscle relaxant. You may have to consult a sleep specialist if you have other associated sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea or restless legs syndrome.
Reply:Use a mouth gaurd. I have one that has been fitted for me by my dentist. Unfortunately, they are kind of expensive and some insurances don%26#039;t cover them because they are considered %26quot;cosmetic%26quot;. I have also found that some grocery stores will carry them. They were in the soap and face wash area. They cost about $30. You boil them and form them to your teeth/mouth. I have not actually used one of these types yet, but I did purchase one.
Reply:do what I did. Keep grinding away until the disc in your jaw finally pops OUT OF PLACE. Wake up to find that you are no longer able to open your mouth wider than 2 pieces of bread, and everything heaped on a spoon is scraped off by your top front teeth. Jump through 5 months of insurance hell, trying to prove that surgery is a medical necessity (because you can%26#039;t eat properly, you%26#039;re slowing starving). Finally have the surgery, only to be told that you aren%26#039;t allowed to CHEW ANYTHING ( teeth must not meet ) for 30 days, go through physical therapy where someone gently but steadily pulls your jaw open, because after all that time of not beinag able to open, the muscles have atrophied (sp?)....
Good news - You%26#039;ll get over any sweet tooth you have after realizing that steak through a straw is beyond repulsive and choose to live on milkshakes, jello, pudding and such ( although if you%26#039;re sneaky you can put a pringle on your tongue, let it get soggy and smash it on the roof of your mouth for a salt fix.) And you%26#039;ll lose pounds you already lost.
Bad news: well, I think I%26#039;ve covered that...
Get a bite guard, and wear it. If you know a Dr. ask him about Noritriptoline ( sp?) it%26#039;s an anti depressent, but they have realised that it has wonderful side effects, like migraine control, calming nerves for better sleep, bed wetting..Okay that one is funny, but it%26#039;s prescribed for that as well...
Good Luck.
Reply:You should have your dentist make you a custom night guard. You can wear it anytime but it%26#039;s recommended to be worn at night. It also has the benifit of keeping your bite adjusted.
Reply:you cant. but you can get a something to put in your mouth to help save your teeth.

If I had my jaw wired, would I stop grinding my teeth?
I am losing my teeth. I can feel my gums in the back. Is getting your jaw wired a viable treatment for grinding? Who would do this for me?
I am desperate. I don%26#039;t want to take medicine. I have taken them and they make me gain weight and feel drugged up. Please help me.
If I had my jaw wired, would I stop grinding my teeth?
It would, but a better solution would be to get a mouth guard from your dentist. It is like rubber and you put it in your mouth when you sleep, it goes in between your teeth so you can%26#039;t grind them....also try less caffeine a night and relaxing before bed...a sleep aid may put you in a deeper sleep...keep trying them till you find one that%26#039;s right for you...good luck!
Reply:I have had my jaw wired shut, due to a broke jaw this is not something I recommend. Beside the fact that you cant eat anything solid, It really hurts having it wired shut , Imagine flossing with bailing wire. I wish I had an answer for your problem but, I think Id reccomend some other alternative
Reply:Get the %26quot;Doctor%26#039;s Night Guard%26quot; (available at Walgreens, CVS, RiteAid and others). It%26#039;s a rubber-like appliance custome made to your mouth that you put in at bedtime, so you can unconsciously run your jaw all night without further damage.
If it%26#039;s a habit during the day, keep it in as long as work or errands permit.
Reply:Don%26#039;t they wore your jaw to where there is a space so your teeth don%26#039;t occlude? I would think that if your teeth don%26#039;t meet that would stop the grinding but do you want your jaw wired at all times? I would suggest going to your dentist and asking about a night guard and possibly adjusting your occlusion.

How to stop jaw clenching and teeth grinding in your sleep?
Any ideas? I clench and grind every night and wake up with a headache. I%26#039;ve tried an osteopath and that didn%26#039;t help, I%26#039;ve try relaxation techniques and they don%26#039;t work. I%26#039;ve even tryed a normal silicon mouthgaurd and chewed straight through it in two nights. I can%26#039;t afford to get a proper occlusion splint from a dentist, it%26#039;s expensive and my insurance doesn%26#039;t cover it.
I am desperate for a good nights sleep...
How to stop jaw clenching and teeth grinding in your sleep?
Dear Lillypetal,
hi.. im a Dentist. the clenching U say u got is called Bruxism. did U get a filling done recently? it maybe cos a little extra filling material was put into the cavity(called a high point) its like a bump n u may subconsciously be trying to get your teeth to close well but aren able to.
this may sound stupid.. but when was the last time U went in for De worming medication....? u may require a course. ask your pharmacist. (ALBENDAZOLE)
someone else suggested U get a guard that sports people use( such as football players or even boxers) u might want to try that.
do U have wax in your ears? if so then u need a clean up. use a wax dissolving liquid(ask for something with Paradichlorobenzene and benzocaine in it)
if u got loads of problems on your mind n like U say u reallly need the sleep U could take 0.25mg of Alprazolam..its an anti anxiety drug. please don take on regular basis!
Your cheek muscles(especially just below your ear) could hurt real bad when U wake up. try soaking a towel in warm water n applying in it.steamin could help too.
try chewing on some bubblegum.
if facial muscle soreness is a problem U could have muscle spasm. in that case take an anti spasmodic(something U use for menstrual cramps show do just fine). donot take it if Ur facial muscles don feel sore.
try sucking on a lozenge.
lastly this show help in some way or the other- follow religiously before U go to bed...brush teeth really wellusing the least amount of force U can(NOT TOO HARD!!). floss gently. see that teeth are squeaky clean.
use a good mouthwash(preferably something with CHLOREXHIDINE and ZINC) if not available. thorough warm salt water gargles should help.
i have never seen U so i need U to make a decision as to what exactly is your problem.. thats why the long list of possible solutions.!
take care n really hope U get some sleep tonight.
sweet dreams!
Reply:that is caused by stress, if you can find a way to control or get rid of your stress, it will stop. it%26#039;s the only way. especially since you tried all those other things
Reply:Stock up on silicon mouthguards.
Reply:The only think I know of is putting cotton in your ears...My daughter was a grinder at nite and the dentist told me to try that...for her it worked...Good luck in finding something that can do the trick for you!
Reply:There are probably issues behind this behavior, I had job stress that I had to deal with before I stopped. Also my dentist did some work on my teeth, my jaw alignment was off, this will cause headaches and muscle aches.
Reply:I used to but I grew out of it. You%26#039;re stressed about something, girl.
Reply:I do sometimes, too when I go to bed anxious or upset. I have no solutions though. sorry :/
Reply:Use a mouth guard, your teeth will grind down, you can find one at the local pharmacy. Also, let out some of your anger, there is such thing as righteous anger...you just gotta learn when to do it, and don%26#039;t always hold it in.
Reply:by a mouth gaurd in a sporting good store this will do the trick

Works for me!
Reply:Granny trick: Put a clove between the back of your bottom gums and the wall of your mouth at bed time. Worked for me as a temp solution (warning it%26#039;s an acquired taste). But eventually you%26#039;ll have to deal with what ever is causing you the anxiety.

While I'm asleep, i am somehow grinding my upper and lower teeth together. What does it mean?
According to my sister, while I%26#039;m asleep I am somehow grinding my teeth. What does that mean? She said that i was doing it for like everyday since i was in grade school and i just knew it lately.
While I%26#039;m asleep, i am somehow grinding my upper and lower teeth together. What does it mean?
oh no...grinding... it is a sign that you are stressed out. grinding can destroy your teeth, damage gums and so on. try seeing a dentist.
i also grind my teeth before and the dentist said it was stress. i also have TMJ. my jaws click and she made me a splint to help fix the moving molar jaw because it clicks and it also prevents grinding at night.
you can also ask for T4A (trainer for adults/ alignment) from te dentist. it would help you prevent further grinding of teeth
:) hope i was able to help
Reply:it means you need to see your dentist and get a night cover for your teeth so you can avoid any further long term destructive and permenant dental damage...It is not as uncommon as you might believe!

What does teeth grinding while sleeping means? is it psychological or physical?
Go to your local sporting good store and get a mouth guard to wear at night. It is called bruxism and is generally related to a TMJ disorder. It can be corrected by anyone who specializes in both TMJ and muscle/joint disorders. Cranio therapists, chiropractors, and orthodontists should be able to help, or refer you to someone in your area who can help.
What does teeth grinding while sleeping means? is it psychological or physical?
its just painful. i dont think there is a set cause for it.
Reply:i dont know, but i do it.
Reply:It could be either. Some people grind their teeth as a stress response.
Reply:yes it is psychological, and harmful it can cause problems with your teeth and jaws. so someone is dealing with that they should get it checked out.
Reply:It is usually caused by stress ask your Dentist about it they can make you a mouth guard that you wear at night so you don%26#039;t grind your teeth
Reply:Not sure if it is one of those but I used to have this prob, I was told it was because I needed to relax a bit more, seemed to be always stressed out about something or worried, try not to go to bed stressing about the next day, week, or your life!
I had to do jaw excersices, place your chin in the palm of your hand, and pushing your jaw shut while you try to open your mouth, do these every night beore you go to bed.
You can also try saying.. A,..E,..I,..O,..U,...but make your mouth open wide while saying these, this might help relax the jaw and it works, I don%26#039;t grind my teeth anymore, I know it sounds like a joke, but trust me I am serious, goodluck on a grinding free night.
Or if its not for you then tell your friend to do these.....
Reply:It%26#039;s a documented condition, and over time you can wear down your teeth and really damage them, I recommend getting a mouth guard for at night to protect your teeth.

How do I get my 10 month old to stop grinding his teeth and biting his crib???
My son has his two uppers and lower front teeth and he keeps grinding them together I would like to know how to stop this. I just notice that he is biting or scraping he teeth on the crib where we can not put protectors on due to it curving a little bit. I would like to know how I can make him stop doing that or if there is anything that I can use to cover up the wood so that way he can not bite the railing?
How do I get my 10 month old to stop grinding his teeth and biting his crib???
Oh I went through this exact thing!!!
Okay, firstly, they grind their teeth because they%26#039;re getting used to them. After about 2 weeks, my son stopped grinding.
He also used to bite his crib rail. So what I did was covered it with a baby blanket:
I took 1 blanket and folded it in half longwise. Draped it over the crib railing. Took my scissors and started at one end cutting strips out of the blanket in the front of the railing and the back. Tied the front strips to the back strips into a knot and voila! A makeshift railing cover that can be washed and didn’t cost me a dime!
Reply:they make teething rails for the crib..because when babies are teething they chew on everything to help cut their teeth. So try getting one and give it time it will stop.
Reply:A little boy I babysit for did this for awhile before his 1st birthday, and it drove me CRAZY! Just the sound of grinding teeth is like nails on a chalkboard. He also totally chewed a dent in his crib. His parents are both pretty easy-going people, and they just ignored it, so I did too. He eventually outgrew it and stopped.
I think he just liked using his new teeth!

Is teeth grinding a mental disorder?
is it a mental disorder or just a mere emotional problems and stress? i need an opinion especially from an expert..a dentist probably :)
Is teeth grinding a mental disorder?
No, it%26#039;s not a mental disorder, it is caused by stress. I use to grind my teeth all the time when i was younger but i don%26#039;t do it as often now.
Reply:Grinding (bruxism) is not a mental disorder. It is involuntary, therefore, may be genetic-do you know of anyone, (esp. parents)who grind? Best to get advice from a DDS who treats TMJ disorders if you have symptoms-headache, ringing in ears, etc Report It
Reply:No it is not a mental disorder. Just a bad habit that could end up being expensive with a dentist.
Reply:No nervousness
Reply:IM NO DENTIST, BUT I DONT KNOW IF ITS STRESS, I USE TO GRIND MY TEETH IN MY SLEEP AND AS A KID I DONT THINK I HAD STRESS, I HAD NO BILLS, LOL SO THAT COULDNT BE IT, I DONT THINK ITS A MENTAL DISORDER THOUGH, ITS JUST A HABBIT I GUESS
Reply:no just a nervous disorder and is usually related to stress
Reply:NO, its just a bad habit!
Reply:The jury%26#039;s still out on what actually causes one to grind their teeth (bruxism), but most signs point to stress. Overtime it can lead to attrition and possibly temporalmandibular joint (TMJ) problems. It%26#039;s advisable to visit a dentist and have a nightguard fabricated to prevent further damage.
There are essentially two types of nightguards, soft and hard. The soft ones are made from some type of polymer, similar to a mouth guard used in sports. These protect well against attrition and are more comfortable, but tend to wear faster. They can also double as a bleaching tray due to their tight fit. The other type of of guard is hard and made of acrylic. These aren%26#039;t as comfy, but do last longer and also are more effective at fixing TMJ problems because it keeps your bite farther open.
Reply:Teeth grinding differs from a lot of person;if you grind your teth when you are stress then this is caused by stress..Some do it unconciously like when they where sleeping %26quot;night grinding%26quot;.But most common case grinding of teeth or bruxism has been a bad habit that a person do since she or he was a child..It could be emotionally if the cause of your teeth grinding is an emotional situation..This is not a mental disorder it is a bad habit of a person which can be stop by his or herself..
Reply:i may not be a dentist but i%26#039;ve gone through that phase... there is a probability that stress may be the main cause of teeth grinding but it%26#039;s not consider as %26quot;MENTAL DISORDER%26quot;...

Reply:You are under some kind of stress. Figure out what is bothering you and while you are trying to fix that, get a mouthguard, to wear while you sleep. This will open your jaw hinge and give some relief to your jaw and help protect your teeth.

Can teeth grinding lead to ear pain?
You betcha. Pretty much everything up there can effect pretty much everything else. A sinus infection can bring out or enhance toothaches or ear pain. An earache can make your jaw feel sore. And grinding your teeth can REALLY cause your ear to hurt.
Talk to your dentist. They have little devices you can have in your mouth to help with the teeth grinding.
Can teeth grinding lead to ear pain?
It sure can.
The teeth and the ears use the same nerve endings. If you chip a tooth or have a deep cavity, it can be interpreted as ear pain.
Reply:yes, it is called TMJ and the nerves in that area of the jaw can aggrivate the nerves that lead up to the ear.
good luck.
Reply:And sufficient grinding can cause misalignment of the jaw causing headaches and other ailments.
Reply:no,its make the exersise of the teeth..............
Reply:Yes. Teeth grinding can lead to ear pain. Because your jaw and ears are on the same %26quot;circuit%26quot; pain in your teeth and jaws can be felt as a headache or pain the ear canals. This is the same as if you have an upper respiratory infection with a stuffy nose and clogged ears, you may notice your teeth are sore. This is due to the pressure. Check out the website below on teeth grinding to find out more about other symptoms you may be experiencing.
Reply:yeah, especially if someone is sleeping next to you ! It will cause that person a lot of ear pain.Trust me I know my husband does it often! I would personally suggest that you go to the dentist ASAP!

Is teeth grinding a lifetime disorder?
I hope not! I%26#039;ve noticed I%26#039;ve been doing it since my mid-twenties, but I was able to %26quot;deal%26quot; with the dull pain. In the past six months, though, a filling came out of one of my molars and then a molar on the other side actually cracked! My dentist repaired both, but said it was due to my grinding, as were the cavities developing from all the wear and tear on my teeth enamel. So next month I%26#039;m getting fitted for a mouthguard to wear when I sleep.
Is teeth grinding a lifetime disorder?
I think it%26#039;s more of a habit than a disorder. If you want to control it, there are special mouth guards you can buy. If you%26#039;re grinding your teeth in your sleep, try sleeping in a different position than what you%26#039;re used to.
Reply:not if youre wearing dentures
Reply:No, but it is more common in children while sleeping.
Reply:no and it can be prevented by buying a nightime mouth guard ....you can purchase them at walmart,or any other department store as such.they are kinda like the mouth guards that athletes wear but are more comfortable and you only wear them while you sleep,so if you or someone you know has a teeth-grinding problem,i would advise that they get one, just trying to give good advice as a dental assistant.
Reply:No, eventually your teeth will grind down and you can wear false teeth... my GF did it and was so happy when they gave her new false teeth, she can%26#039;t believe the difference!
I arranged them for her 19th birthday as a suprise.
Reply:its not a habbit but a mental disorder. seek help or you will loose all your teeth.
Reply:i think this particular disorder is related to stress and anxiety and so i think, unfortunately, it would be an infliction for life. sometimes it is realted to other stress disorders such as headaches. there are mouth guards you can buy to protect your teeth and minimise the effects of it. other than that, maybe try to seek the source of what makes you grind you teeth.
Reply:that%26#039;s my problem too....it%26#039;s been my habit, i dunno if it%26#039;s a habit really, but ever since, i do grind my teeth while sleeping.....i had my braces recently, and when i sleep at night, i still grind my teeth, damn, it hurts to hell...someone told me to go to my dentist and ask about mouthguard, he said it will help a lot...
Reply:It%26#039;s usually a sign of depression or emotional problems. Dreaming of teeth crumbling and falling out is the same. It%26#039;s a sign that our emotions are trapped inside and want to get out. Once you learn to let out your emotions it should stop.x

Bruxism (Teeth-Grinding) & TMJ (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction)?
Is there a dentist here or someone who has knowledge in this help me out? Are Bruxism and TMJ the same or is it Bruxism a symptom of TMJ or TMJ a symptom of Bruxism?
Bruxism (Teeth-Grinding) %26amp; TMJ (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction)?
You can suffer from Bruxism and TMJ dysfunction or TMD together and separately. Not everyone who grinds their teeth has TMJ symptoms. Some people are totally unaware that they are bruxing until the dentist tells them that they are. As we grind our teeth down, the bite becomes overclosed, and this can lead to TMJ involvement.
Likewise, there are many other causes of TMD than bruxing, although grinding the teeth can be one of the factors. Most common cause of TMD is problems with the bite, such as crossbite which causes a traumatic occlusion. Car accidents can damage the joints, even yawning too widely and popping the condyles out of position.
So, in answering your question, TMD and bruxism can be found together or separately. Not everyone with Bruxism will have TMD, but it is more likely. Not everyone with TMD will have bruxism, but they can.
Reply:tmj is when you jaw is sore and cracks alot. i haveit and when i eat my foodmy jaw cracks. also when i wake up my jaw cracks pretty bad. its not painful now b/c im youge, its a little uncomfortable but tolerable. im supposed to wear a thing at night but i dont, bruxism i dont know what that is.

Is teeth grinding a very critical sleeping disorder?what are some of the ways to cure it?
yes it is, go to an orthodontis to get a sleep appliance that will help you to stop
Is teeth grinding a very critical sleeping disorder?what are some of the ways to cure it?
I suffer from it too....mouthplates from your dentist are the only real way of preventing tooth damage...Ive been doing it for many years but because I never used a plate my teeth are worn down to the gum...and im only 23
Reply:No.
In most people the damage to the hard tissues i.e.enamel and dentine is limited and not of great significance.
However, a small minority exhibit excessive tooth substance loss and in these patients the treatment is the wearing of a night splint or mouthguard during sleep if caught early enough otherwise all the teeth need re-constructing , a process called full-mouth rehabilitation. It%26#039;s very costly and time-consuming and fraught with pitfalls for the inexperienced dentist.
The wearing of a cheaper soft mouthguard is ,in my opinion, preferable as it is easy to make and wear and often leads to correction of the grinding(or bruxism) at least on a temporary basis. The harder types are more expensive and do not really attempt to %26quot;cure%26quot; the problem merely prevent damage to the teeth.
Reply:Yes. It is probably related to emotional stress that is continuing even while you sleep. It is critical because eventually it can damage your teeth and even jaw bones. Since sleeping is one of the more natural and automatic things that we do, it should be obvious that not sleeping well is a probably a symptom of an underlying (physical or mental) health condition. Today the very best natural remedy for a wide range of serious health conditions is a product called Via Viente. This whole food tonic was created after 12 years of research and development by some of America’s best scientist and doctors in the area of health and nutrition. Are teeth grinding and an itchy nose a sign of parasites in the body.?
I heard that somewhere and like 4 out of 5 people have parasites
Are teeth grinding and an itchy nose a sign of parasites in the body.?
Grinding of the teeth is something people do while they are asleep...no real reason why it is done. For the itchy nose, some say it%26#039;s a sign that a person will kiss a fool, or it%26#039;s just allergies. Where parasites came into those two things are truly comical! Don%26#039;t listen to nonsense...just sit back and enjoy the b.s. If you are that concerned then see your doctor.
Reply:Teeth grinding isn%26#039;t caused by parasites. Sometimes people who%26#039;s bite are not aligned will grind their teeth. Stress and anxiety are also examples of why a person grinds their teeth.
Reply:Unbelievable. Where DO people come up with this stuff?
If they are grinding their teeth and itching their nose all the time, that is a sign of being on drugs. Seriously.
Parasites.....good grief.

How do I stop a 2 year old from grinding his teeth?
good luck, I tell mine no, and explain the reason why it%26#039;s bad and then, gently put my tumb and my other finger my his checks and opens his mouth up each time he does it.It so far has worked . He is probably to young for the bites, I would be afraid he would choke on it

Reply:If you or your child has bruxism, your doctor may suggest a mouth guard or protective dental appliance (splint) to prevent damage to your teeth. Your dentist can make a custom mouth guard to fit your mouth. Over-the-counter mouth guards are available and they%26#039;re less expensive than custom guards, but they generally don%26#039;t fit well and can dislodge during bruxing. If your bruxism seems to stem from dental problems, your dentist may also correct misaligned teeth. In severe cases — when tooth wear has led to sensitivity or the inability to chew properly — your dentist may need to use overlays or crowns to entirely reshape the chewing surfaces of your teeth.

Reply:It may be possible that your 2 year old has worms. This always was the first thing we checked for when my children were going up 50 years ago. You can take a stool sample to your child%26#039;s doctor and have it checked, or after your son is sound asleep you can take a flash light to exam him in the dark as sometimes you can find worms actually crawling outside the rectum. If he would have worms there is medicine that the entire family can take, because usually if the children have them so do the parents.

What should I do my son keeps grinding his teeth?
My 2 1/2 year old keeps grinding his teeth for no reason. How do I get him to stop?
What should I do my son keeps grinding his teeth?
have him checked for ear infections that can cause teeth discomfort and grinding them relieves the hurt in the middle ear. or it could just be that he just found out what it does and it amazes him. try gently with you thumb and index finger squeezing his cheecks together to make a fish face and tell him thats not nice or thats bad. if he keeps doing it squeeze harder each time. keep it up and eventually he should stop if not take him to the dentist.
Reply:I doubt that he%26#039;s still teething, but perhaps you could find him a binky. And consult your doctor, or even something online. I%26#039;m sure the answer is simple.
Reply:since I was young I have grinded my teeth. Actually I still do to this day. What my mom did for me was put a mouth gard in my mouth. It works I promis.
Reply:i dont think you can get him to stop but i think you should et him a night mouth guard to prevent damage to his teeth. im not a dr but he could also have something called tmj contact your dr and ask some questions just to be on th safe side.
Reply:you should tell him in a understanble way that if he doesnt grind his teeth for one whole day you would get him a toy or ect. and then keep rewarding him until his body gets used to that good habit. or you could take him to the dentist and have the dentist show him how his teeth will turn out to look when he grows up if he keeps doing it.
hoped i helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.ask him why
Reply:mouth guard would probably be a good idea.

How to get a 4 year old child to stop grinding his teeth?
The other night there was a loud storm and our 4 year old was scared and came into bed with us. I%26#039;m usually a fairly sound sleeper, however he was grinding his teeth so loud at one point it woke me up. How can we get him to stop grinding his teeth?
How to get a 4 year old child to stop grinding his teeth?
Take your child to the dentist. If you don%26#039;t correct it now, you will have MAJOR dental bills later on.
Reply:go see your orthodontist right away, this is a real problem that needs to be fixed right away
Reply:retainer - that%26#039;s what my little cousin got
Reply:a football mouthpiece works 4 me there avalialable in small sizes
Reply:Show him a picture of horrible teeth and tell him that is what will happen if he continues. Worked on me.
Reply:you can%26#039;t. but it would help if you bring him/her to the dentist. the dentist can make a plastic mold to fit into his/her teeth. this is acts like a protection dish to prevent him/her from destroying the teeth in the process of grinding. I know b%26#039;cos my stepdaughter wears one.
Reply:It depends on if he is doing it while sleeping or while he is awake, if while sleeping you should take him to a dentist to get a mouth thing that keeps him from grinding while sleeping, if whild awake tell him not to and tell him the effects it can have later in life, and try to find somthing to take his mind of doing it while awake!
Reply:If you manage it let me know. I have ground my teeth since I was a child. I go buy one of those sports mouth pieces. They are cheep, you put them in boiling water to soften the plastic, let it cool a bit and put it in your mouth and mold it to your mouth. You might consider this as an option because your child%26#039;s mouth will change a lot in the next few years and you don%26#039;t want to have to pay out for the dentist to custom fit every six months or so. I have good insurance and it still cost me close to $500 every time I had to get a new one. After I lost the second that%26#039;s when I found out about these and started using them. Good luck to you and your child. I have been considering calling a hypnotist because it is subconscious and I can%26#039;t will myself to stop. I have recently found out I have two cracked teeth from doing this. Granted I%26#039;m in my thirty%26#039;s but if I could have stopped as a child I wouldn%26#039;t need to go as often as I do.
Reply:There is no way to stop it, as it%26#039;s done subconciously. You should talk to his dentist about having a nightguard/brux guard made for him. The earlier, the better. I have had teeth grinding problems(bruxism) my whole life(I%26#039;m 36), and only got a brux guard a year ago, and it has made such a difference. I have some serious permanent damage to my teeth due to the nighttime grinding.

How do I stop my baby from grinding his teeth?
My son only has 6 teeth right now, but there are times when he starts grinding them so hard that we can hear them crunching together. His dad does the same thing in his sleep when he%26#039;s stressed. Is there anything I can do to get him to stop?
How do I stop my baby from grinding his teeth?
My son did that a few months ago I was so worried that he was going to ruin his sweet little white teeth his Dr. said that he will stop before he does any real damage and he did.. I never hear him grinding anymore. Hope that helps
Reply:You may have to wait until he is older but there are sleeping mouth guards out that stops it when they are sleep. My bf has the same problem it sounds like he is eating or something in his sleep.
Reply:my son did that too, the doctor told me it was because he was teething and it wouldnt hurt him (although it wierded me out) until he did it for a long time. A pacifire works too if he likes it. Good luck
Reply:I%26#039;ve been told I also do that in my sleep...it could be because he%26#039;s teething...but I would check with the doctor on this one. Good luck!
Reply:You don%26#039;t . If you make too big a deal out of it that can make it worse. He might out grow it. If you are still worried you can always take him to a pediatric dentist. He isn%26#039;t to young.
Reply:My mom is a nurse and she said there are mouth guards for sports. yo can cut them down to fit his little mouth (make sure there are no loose pieces) and when he falls asleep pull his lower jaw out and down like you do with CPR and put it in his mouth. i don%26#039;t know what you could do when hes awake maybe a binky?
Reply:My son is doing the same thing right now as I type and it drives me nuts! My other three did the same thing also while they were teething. It%26#039;s normal and it%26#039;ll soon be done. I really wouldn%26#039;t make a big deal out of it and I certainly wouldn%26#039;t put any mouth guards in his mouth. I give my son his teething toys when he really gets going with it and he%26#039;ll chew on those instead.

How do you stop a bad habbit of grinding your teeth together?
I have teeth problems from grinding my teeth down in the back of my mouth. Please help me and I will give the best answer my 5 star winning prize.
How do you stop a bad habbit of grinding your teeth together?
I do the exact same thing. All you have to do is go to the Dentist and get a mold made of your teeth. Then they create a %26quot;night guard%26quot;. It prevents you from grinding %26amp; has no pain or disadvantages. You just put it in right before you go to sleep %26amp; wake up take it out.
Reply:get one of those football mouth pieces from the store and follow the directions for fitting it to your mouth. wear it to bed at night and it%26#039;ll save your teeth. it%26#039;s alot cheaper than having the dentist make you one and don%26#039;t worry if it takes a while to get used to it, i used to spit mine out all the time.
Reply:I would try to keep mints, gum, a lollypop in my mouth to be mor concious of teh ahbbit. Really if you are aware of it you just have to be that much more aware of trying to stop it.
Reply:consult a dentist or an oral surgeon- you can wear a bite blocker in your mouth when you sleep at night. this helps patients with tmj stop grinding their teeth
Reply:I do the same thing. You need to consult with a dentist to address the situation and find out why you%26#039;re doing it. It could be a physical reason - such as a bad bite - or a psychological reason - such as stress.
A temporary solution to a physical reason for bruxism is a night guard - These are much better than your standard %26quot;football%26quot; mouth piece because they aren%26#039;t as bulky and are fitted to YOUR teeth and the size of YOUR mouth, rather than just the average dimensions of a group of peoples mouths. The permanent solution is to fix the physical problem, which can be addressed in any number of ways tailored to your specific case.
If it%26#039;s psychological - again a mouth guard - can be used to retrain your mouth to terminate the grinding.
Please get this addressed. The end result is damage to your teeth requiring any level of restorative dentistry ( which can become EXTREMELY expensive) and to the joint that controls your jaw, which is called TMJ.

How do you stop a 7 month old grinding her teeth?
my daughter has 4 of her front teeth through and keeps grinding them together not only do i not want her to ruin her teeth but the sound goes right through me i really hate it how can i stop her doing it please help

Giver her a pacifier or a teether :)
Reply:I have no clue... my mother still grinds her teeth too. The sound.... ugh!
Reply:She won%26#039;t ruin them. And at this point, you can%26#039;t stop her.

Reply:My son use to do this, you can%26#039;t stop her or hit her rightnow, she will stop, my son stopped on his own. I just ignored him when he did it cause if you make a big deal about it she will know she is doing something out of the ordinary.

And now I have a 2 year old and she is right, it is, sleeping everything, they sort themselves out eventually, my boy grinds his teeth every once in a while, it may help her when they%26#039;re hurting.
Reply:If she grinds them at night too then there%26#039;s nothing to do but wait until she%26#039;s older and get a mouth guard to prevent tooth damage. If it%26#039;s day time only then it%26#039;s just a phase and you%26#039;ll have to adjust.
Reply:It%26#039;s very VERY common with young babies as they get their new teeth. They%26#039;re just experimenting with those hard things inside their mouths! Both my kids did it (my almost 3 year old still does periodically) usually while they where cutting new teeth or right after they cut new teeth.
My pediatrician assured me it%26#039;s totally normal and isn%26#039;t anything to worry about!
Hope that helps!
Reply:My son is now 4, he did it the moment he had enough teeth to grind and still does. I hoped he would stop by now, but it%26#039;s as though it%26#039;s part of his sleep pattern.

Teeth grinding? Why does this happen?
My husband says I do it so loud that it must hurt but it does not wake me.
Teeth grinding? Why does this happen?
Tooth grinding/clenching - known as bruxism is a natural process that starts in childhood. Almost all children do this naturally as it helps newly erupting teeth find a comfortable position within the arch where they are balanced in contact with the rest of the teeth in the mouth. This usually stops by age 12. Some adults however, carry on grinding throughout their lives. Nobody knows why but it always seems to worsen at times of stress or when there are things playing on their minds.
Reply:I do it too. It%26#039;s pretty common actually. Not sure why, I just started doing it recently and I%26#039;m 49. My 17 year old daughter does it too. See your dentist before you break a tooth, like I did. Now I gotta get it pulled.
Your dentist can custom make a mouth guard for you to wear when you sleep. Both my wife and daughter have them.
Reply:my husband grinds his teeth and it makes me so crazy!!!
I clench my jaw, which my dentist said I could use a bite guard at night if I had problems, I think they sell some at stores also, you can cause damage to your teeth
Reply:I do it too girl it%26#039;s okay. We are women and we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders! LOL ANyway, I went to the doc because I pulled some of my teeth away from my gums I ground them so hard!!! %26quot;Night Grinding%26quot; Painful!!!!!!! Get a mouth guard. That is what the Doc and my dentist told me. Also try calming yourself before bed with some chamomile tea! Good luck with that!!!!!! It may not hurt now but, it will. You can buy a mouth guard your self and customize it. or J go to the dentist.
Reply:I too suffer from %26quot;trench mouth%26quot; (teeth grinding and jaw clenching) this is usually the result of stress. I have had to have 6 teeth pulled over the years because I clenched my jaw so hard during sleep that I cracked my teeth. I finally got a dentist that told me what the problem was and he suggested I wear an athletic mouth guard made of pliable material to keep me from damaging any more teeth. This will also make it quieter for your husband.

If you don%26#039;t want a nightguard (like me %26amp; I%26#039;m a dental assistant)
your chiropractor can help relax your jaw, otherwise work on the stress.
Make sure you are not going to bed with stuff weighing on your mind. I do crosswords or sudukos til I pass out.

Is their a way to prevent someone from grinding their teeth while they sleep?
My brother is 12-years-old and he constantly grinds his teeth while he sleeps. I really wouldn%26#039;t care if he did but we share a room together. So every night I have to get out of my bed and wake him up on numerous occasions because his grinding is so loud and it wakes me up. He has done this since he was 5-years old and I cannot take it anymore. Is their anyway to get him to stop grinding while he sleeps?
Is their a way to prevent someone from grinding their teeth while they sleep?
Grinding your teeth is also called bruxism and it%26#039;s bad for your teeth. The dentist can give him a plastic mouthpiece called a %26quot;nightguard%26quot; that can prevent damage to his teeth and reduce the noise. I had one made for me.

Too much grinding can break his teeth, I have broken 3 crowns from night grinding.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the cause of grinding ur teeth?
I have been grinding my teeth at night while i sleep since i was like 5 years old..can anyone tell me how i could stop this or what causes it?
What is the cause of grinding ur teeth?
Perhaps you chew chewing gum that is sweetened with Aspartame. Your body is craving for more during your sleep.
If you are, cut out the aspartame.
Reply:Bad occlusion (bite) and mental stress.
Stress can lead to bruxism but there are some people with normal bites and little stress that still grind their teeth at night. The solution is quite simple, use an athletic mouth guard when you go to bed. You could spend a lot of money to have one custom-made for you but the athletic guard molds to your teeth and is very inexpensive. If you lose it or grind your way thru it, it%26#039;s easy and cheap to replace, unlike a custom-made appliance. Also, it%26#039;s easy and free to re-size it, unlike a custom-made appliance.
The most common reason is your stress level. People tend to clench their teeth at night when a stressfull situation bothers them. Without knowing you will just bite so hard that your muscles are hurt. Then when you are asleep your jaws are moving so hard that the chewing surfaces are damaged. The best solution is a night guard which can be done by your dentist. He will take an impression, send it to the lab ( dental technician)and then with your bite adjustment the night guard will be very helpfull.

you could get one of those dental gaurds to sleep with at night (it does take a time or two to get used to it)
Reply:not sure what causes it but i do it as well. get a nite guard through your dentist because chances are you%26#039;re wearing down your teeth and you need to protect that.
Reply:Usually it is due to stress. If you find yourself doing it during the daytime then you are going to have to make the effort yourself to not do it. For nighttime bruxism (or grinding) see your dentist to have a nightguard made... you can wear this while you sleep. Bruxism will cause wear on the enamel of your teeth and could lead to future TMJ trouble.
Plant question

Is there a way to stop teeth night-time grinding?
I already use a night-guard to protect my teeth. However, I would still like to stop grinding my teeth at night.
Is there a way to stop teeth night-time grinding?
I don%26#039;t think you can stop the grinding, as your body is doing it subconciously in your sleep. My dentist once recommended me to use the night-guard to protect my teeth at night. This was the only advice he gave me. I know of no way to stop it completely. I think you%26#039;re probably doing all you can to protect your teeth. Try asking your dentist if there%26#039;s anything new on the market.
Reply:I heard there were some medication you could take for it, you should ask your doctor. I have the same problem, I am lituraly grinding through my jaw
Reply:Try chewing gum before bed. Many unconscious body movements are caused by the body trying to exhaust itself. Chewing gum will exercise the jaw.
Reply:depends on the person. some people can%26#039;t help but grind their teeth while sleeping, just like some people can%26#039;t stop snoring. though the cause for this behavior is unknown, it is generally believed that stress may be the culprit. (one of my co-workers actually stopped grinding her teeth by learning to relax.)
don%26#039;t know if you%26#039;re a natural grinder or just stressed, but if you%26#039;re the latter, try:
- relaxing about life in general. (learning some coping skills, behavioral therapy or self-hypnosis to handle stress.)
- monitoring yourself throughout the day to see if you tense your jaw.
- taking a bath to temporarily relax your jaw.
if it%26#039;s really, really, really bad, i heard about injecting botox, but i%26#039;m sure this may have unknown consequences; besides, botox would only fix the symptom, not the cause.
good luck.
Reply:i was goin to say night guard, but since you already have one than, tell your dentist you may need something else, like a nasty paste they have now.
Reply:Everybody grinds their teeth! You said you have a night guard, but what kind do you have? There are sport mouth guards and soft night guards that are the least effective. I recommend going to the dentist and buying one that is made specifically for your teeth and is hard and has one flat surface so that your teeth don%26#039;t interdigitate (fancy word for clenching together when you bite down and shifting your teeth. You can do it right now: bite down and keep your teeth touching. Now wiggle your lower jaw slowly. You can feel your teeth%26#039;s grooves preventing you from sliding your jaw completely forward and back. This is known as interdigitating.) If you have a soft night guard, the squishy material can still allow you to do this and won%26#039;t prevent grinding headaches or the actual movement of your teeth. However soft guard still can prevent and help with ware patterns on your teeth. The hard guards can go on your upper or lower teeth and should have a flat surface that will allow your teeth to slide and not interdigitate. All night guards take some getting used to because its extra bulk in your mouth.
Either way to really answer your question: everybody clenches and grinds their teeth... some more than others... and we all go through bouts where we do it more than average. Stress and other factors can contribute to grinding... so if you have a busy life and are stressed out this can make you grind more at night. I had a boss who used to grind his teeth when he was pissed off... so when he was angry talking his teeth were clenched together... some people even grind when they are stuck in traffic... the best thing to do when you notcie you are grinding or clenching your teeth durring the day is to calm down, relax and chew a peice of gum (hopefully sugar free) and as far as the night time goes just prepare yourself the best you can.

Can you stop an 8-month old from grinding his teeth?
My son grinds his teeth during the day, not in his sleep (that I know of). Is there anyway to stop it? I have taken his pacifier away during the day, but I am thinking of giving it back to him because it prevents him from grinding his teeth. Any thoughts?
Can you stop an 8-month old from grinding his teeth?
it%26#039;s a phase, he%26#039;ll grow out of it.
The sound is AWFUL though.. our 9 month old is really bad for that.
He just likes the sound.
Reply:It%26#039;s not going to hurt him to grind his teeth. He probably just likes the sound or feel. They%26#039;re temporary teeth anyway.
Reply:I think they do tend to outgrow that, but if you%26#039;re concerned it might be affecting his teeth, a dentist should be able to tell you what you could do, if anything.
Reply:give him some celery to munch on
Reply:I would let the dentist know and see what they think you should do.I never grew out of it and continued to do that in my sleep and still do. I was given a mouth guard to wear at night, Your child is to young for this, but his dentist will know what to do to help.

How can I stop grinding my teeth in my sleep?
I%26#039;ve tried meditation, I%26#039;ve tried self-hypnosis. I%26#039;m not a particularly stressed person, but I can%26#039;t stop grinding my teeth.
How can I stop grinding my teeth in my sleep?
it ain%26#039;t you or stress......it is genetics.......get a hard flat plane acrylic device to wear on your lower teeth at night....it snaps over your lower teeth and your upper teeth have nothing to grind on......they rub against a flat hard surface when they are trying to grind...so your jaw stays relaxed and your teeth don%26#039;t get all beat up by the constant action while you sleep...my device cost about $200 but is worth every penny... good luck
Reply:You need to go to the dentist and have him make you a mouth guard. Call your dentist in the morning and get an appoinment set up for this.
Reply:Hi. I have had the same problem, wich resulted in headaches and bad moods... I went to the dentist and he set me up with a type of brace in hard plastic. (Sorry, dont know the term in english, maby its %26quot;dental splint%26quot;). You sleep with it in you mouth, helping your yaws to relax and so you get a good night sleep and no more grinding.
Reply:invest in a nightguard. visit a sporting goods store or see your dentist.

If you aren%26#039;t doing any damage to your teeth then grinding should be harmless. However if you%26#039;re also getting headaches, you might need something else. See if you can call your dentist and just get some information, stressing that you don%26#039;t want to come in for anything. Doctors can be a little overeager and there%26#039;s no point in paying for a consultation that probably won%26#039;t do anything you couldn%26#039;t get for free over the phone.
Reply:There isn%26#039;t anything u can do except to use a teeth guard. I%26#039;ve tried using both hard and soft teeth guard and find the soft one much better cos the hard one%26#039;s kinda hard to wear and it breaks easily too.
I think you need to wear one cos last time, before I started wearing a teeth guard, I grinded so much that the end of one my teeth actually chipped off and it causes receding gum and cause sensitivity. It%26#039;s a very annoying problem. But I highly recommend a teeth guard.
Reply:The easy fix is to get a sports mouth guard. You can sleep in it.
The dentist can also make you a guard (usually plastic). The types vary, so ask what you are getting. For example, if you need to wear it all day because you grind all day, get something that is transparent/not colored so others won%26#039;t notice it. Some dental guards are not like this--they are opaque and obvious or don%26#039;t fit the same way, making it hard to talk.
Minor grinding may not be a problem beyond annoying other people or perhaps creating headaches. More severe cases can lead to severe tooth surface loss, which can be arrested with proper crowns, or which eventually will cause you to need many root canals and restoration of teeth with crowns etc. If not treated, a tooth which needs a root canal can advance to bone infection in the skull where the tooth root adjoins.

3 year old daughter grinding her teeth during sleep?
My daughter hasn%26#039;t been sleeping well lately, so I%26#039;ve been lying next to her and sneaking out when I could. I have noticed that once she%26#039;s in a deep sleep, she starts grinding her teeth. I am talking LOUDLY! It sounds like fingernails on a chalk board!
Has anyone else had a toddler do this? If I take her to a doctor or a pediatric dentist and they give her a mouthguard... I can see that flying across the other side of the room as soon as we try to put it in!
Any suggestions, please?
3 year old daughter grinding her teeth during sleep?
Bruxism. That is the official name for teeth grinding. My son is 5 and he has the same problem. Makes your skin crawl, huh? We took him to the pediatric dentist and they suggested the mouth guard. I have to admit, it was difficult getting him to wear it at first.
Reply:Im in the same situation except my daughter has been doing that since she was 9 months old and she is now 15 months. The noise drives me nuts and all the doctor told me to do because she is so young and could gag on a mouthguard is to use a pacifier for another year or so to prevent it.
If you find anything that works please let me know as well.
Reply:My son is 6 and started doing it about 12 months ago. I have seen a doctor about it, but apart from a mouthguard there really isn%26#039;t anything you can do. Sorry....I know how bad it can be. I can hear it from the next room
Reply:My son%26#039;s dentist wouldn%26#039;t give us a mouth guard. He says that it won%26#039;t be harmful yet because the baby teeth will fall out anyway. It is very irritating to the ears though. You may want to purchase a child size night guard if you can find one at a drug store I haven%26#039;t been able to do so myself.
Reply:Nightmares is there stress on him or has she been having a bad time .

The doc told me it was from pint up energy and I didn%26#039;t believe him but it was true. We ran around with no t.v for a few hours every night and did our bed time routine and dinner and all with out t.v. He got used to it. after three times of that he stopped grinding. He still does it once in a while but not anything like before. We can still watch our shows like The Office and Heroes and my son won%26#039;t watch, we also will play a game like elefun while me and my husband watch our show and he is still actively entertained, he has learned to play and run around and we do with him but he gets no shows or movies after 5. also no sugar, fruit, carbs after 5, that was a big factor too. I thought all this to be extreme and a life style change but it really wasn%26#039;t.
Reply:Got to watch out for that it can cause jaw pain and later causes in life... she should go to a Dentist three is a good age to go.

It happend with my son also who is 3 years old. now after having the mediciens, no problem of teeth grinding.

How can I stop grinding my teeth?
Hi i have a bruxism tray. I am grinding my teeth still with it. If i forget the tray, I actually chew my cheek and tongue. I have chewed my tongue where blood has come before. It is gross.
I had one doctor say I should consider wiring my jaw, but I saw what that did to another friend of mine and I think it made her unhealthy. She was drinking her nutrition from a straw. And basically I don%26#039;t want surgery.
Does anyone have any tips about what to do? I was told I don%26#039;t have an overbite, so I have no idea why I am doing this. I don%26#039;t think its stress as I personally do not feel stressed and this has been happening since I was little.
I would like to stop as it causes a lot of pain. Also, I don%26#039;t want to end up looking like Mrs Magoo.
Are there any latest state of the art strategies nowdays? Thanks.
How can I stop grinding my teeth?
There are dentists who focus on bruxism and TMJ disorders, since grinding may over time cause a problem in your TMJ. If you have the nightguard then stick with it. There are several different kinds, and they%26#039;ll at least keep you from grinding down your teeth. Grinding isn%26#039;t always tied to stress...a lot of people just do it in their sleep and there%26#039;s not really a good way to stop it. I%26#039;m not sure how orthognathic surgery would help, so I think you%26#039;re right not to go for that. But I would agree with what someone else said about a muscle relaxant like flexeril when you sleep, especially if that pain is in your jaw muscles.
Reply:Im 21 and i still grind my teeth during sleep!! i just wanted to add my 2 cents sorry!! I cant help you
Reply:I used to grind, but then I stopped, but there%26#039;s something you have to consider first. Grinding teeth IS caused by stress. If you don%26#039;t have stress that you know of, you have stress that you are unconscious of, or you have ignored. If you%26#039;ve been doing this since childhood then the stress is likely from then! Did something challenging come your was as a child, like divorce, death of a loved one, even the birth of a sibling. When you find the source of this repressed material, then your grinding will stop when you simply make up your mind. But you can%26#039;t do it unless you acknowledge what your body is trying to tell you!
Reply:I assume a %26#039;bruxism tray%26#039; is a molded mouth guard which is normally worn at night. If you are still having the problems you describe, you could try a muscle relaxant. It is a bit odd that your symptoms are so extreme and you don%26#039;t notice any stress. Either you are more stressed than you realise, in which case some vigorous exercise every day could produce relaxation of excess muscle tension, or there is another problem. How long has this been going on? If longer than a couple of months and exercise doesn%26#039;t help, I would consult a neurologist and perhaps have an EEG. Your symptoms sound severe enough to pursue a solution. First stop could be a really excellent dentist, if the first one doesn%26#039;t help, seek out a better one. They vary a lot. Good luck!

Good luck!

How can I tell if I'm grinding my teeth at night?
This morning I woke up with a really sore jaw. I think I may have been grinding my teeth, but am unsure. I have a history of interuppted sleep and have am wondering if that could possibly mean anything. Does anyone know how to tell if I really am grinding my teeth, or if I just have a sore jaw?
Thanks!
How can I tell if I%26#039;m grinding my teeth at night?
I grind my teeth alot at night and if I%26#039;m cold or nervous about something I grind it harder. When I wake up I have a sore jaw but my teeth also hurt. It%26#039;s difficult to chew because of the pain in my teeth.
Reply:You very well may be. I over time (a year) you notice your two front teeth pacing apart and angling forward, that is a pretty good indication. Also the pain you say you have, watch that for about a month, and if it does not subside..you must talk with your dentist. He will then prescribe a mouth piece to wear at night. This will prevent any damage. Just pay attention to it, and if anything causes suspicion, talk with your dentist. Keep that pretty smile Chica :) Good Luck.
Reply:SEE A DENTIST, THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY NIGHT GRINDIND WILL BE READILY SEEN.
Reply:common signs of grinding are a headache when you wake up, or that mandibular pain you say you are experiencing. If it only happens in the morning when you wake up it%26#039;s a pretty good sign that you do grind. If it happens throughout the day it may be something else like TMJ. Other signs of grinding include chipping of the teeth. Examine your teeth closely, looking for small fractures on the top or along the sides. Feel with your tongue for anything sharp. Theeth should have smooth contours, except for the canines that may be pointy, but still not relatively sharp. To be on the safe side, just ask your dentist. The solution for this is a night guard. They sell them at any drug store or at wal-mart, but they are not as good as one custom made by a dentist. They will take impressions of your teeth to create stone models and fabricate a night guard, which is a hard on the outside, soft on the inside plastic protective cover for your teeth... you only need one, either for the top or for the bottom, it makes no difference. This should help you solve your problem
Reply:I grind my teeth at night when im stressed out. I wake up with a sore jaw and headaches. Plus my boyfriend can hear me grind my teeth. But I really couldnt tell until I went to the dentist and I told them that I have headaches that shoot down into my teeth. They looked at my bite and saw that my bite just doesnt equal up. So I had braces put on so I can stop the grinding
Reply:bruxism is the term for teeth grinding..you can tell if your cusps (little protrusions on your molars) seem to look flat..you can ask your dentist for a night guard..
Reply:Do you have a spouse or roommate who could tell you? The noise grinding teeth makes is terrible and they would know.
Otherwise, Dr. Albert is right. Your dentist can usually see wear patterns on your teeth caused by grinding. If you are not grinding in the daytime and have those marks then you must be grinding in the night. Putting this evidence together with your history could indicate night grinding.
Reply:Next time your have a dentist checkup, ask if they could check if your teeth have signs of wearing.
My dentist noticed my molars were worn down. He suggested a mouth guard, specially made to wear while sleeping, to protect my teeth.
Best to get the custum-made mouth guard while on a dental plan. It%26#039;s quite expensive

How do you stop a child from grinding their teeth at night?
My daughter (age five) has been grinding her teeth at night about once every two weeks.
My nine month old has now begun to grind his teeth.
Any sugestions on how to stop this anoying habit in either case?
How do you stop a child from grinding their teeth at night?
It%26#039;s not just annoying; it will ruin their teeth by wearing the enamel away. Take them to the dentist and get mouth guards for them to wear at night. They hopefully will outgrow it, but some people continue throughout their lives. Good luck!
Reply:theres this thing that is like a retainer, except it protects the teeth from grinding, ask your orthodontist or dentist about it for more info on them.
Reply:do not get any mercury fillings, because that causes it. don%26#039;t get other heavy metals either.
go to the dentist and have them make her a nightguard. you might try walmart pharmacy, but i don%26#039;t know if they would have one small enough.
Reply:I grind my teeth at night. My Dr says to buy one of the clear night mouth pieces. I go to my Chiro every now and then to pop my jaw back in place so I will stop grinding. It helps for a while. I have lock jaw. But I dont know what you would do for a child. Have you asked a Dr?
Reply:Unfortunately children grind their teeth. The reasons are unknown, but the primary teeth (baby teeth) are made different than the permanent (adult) teeth. Due to this it allows for the primary teeth to handle the wear down of the enamel better.
In most cases the child/children stop grinding their teeth when they get more of the permanent teeth in. If by that time (9-10 yrs old) the grinding does not stop, then you should see your dentist and discuss your concerns with them.
I would guess that if you take your children to the dentist about this problem now....nothing would be done. Just due to their ages.
Reply:I would recommend going to the dentist to see what they say. Normally (for example with an adult or teen) I would say they would need a nightguard, which is a plastic applicance that is worn over the teeth at night, which can stop the grinding, or just protect the teeth from the grinding. But with a child, they would most likely not do that, especially at that young an age, because it is very rare for young children to react well to getting impressions taken (which must be done as the nightguard is custom fitted). They might be able to recommend another way of stopping them from grinding. To sum it up, when in doubt, ask your dentist!
Reply:Nothing, they will probably grow out of it. A dentist will not give them a night guard or retainer because it won%26#039;t allow there mouth to grow the way it needs to. There baby teeth can handle grinding better than our adult teeth can. She%26#039;s not really doing it often enough to really worry about anyway. Both my boys grind there teeth at night since they had teeth and as they get older they are doing it less and less. They are now 4 and 5 years old. Hope everything goes well

What causes teeth grinding? My 3 year old daughter grinds her teeth a lot at night when she is sleeping.?
I just want to know what is causing this....??? Any advice would be appreciated.
What causes teeth grinding? My 3 year old daughter grinds her teeth a lot at night when she is sleeping.?
I don%26#039;t think doctors know what actually causes teeth grinding during the sleep process. It%26#039;s like restless leg syndrome, talking in your sleep, etc. It is very important, however, that you do what you can to prevent teeth grinding. This action causes extreme wear on teeth. Check with your daughter%26#039;s pediatrician to learn what you, as a parent, can do. There may be an appliance of some sort that can be fitted over the teeth to weaken the grinding. Good luck.
Reply:Sometimes it%26#039;s nothing! Both of my kids did it ... and eventually grew out of it (by around age 4). Keep an eye (or an ear) on it for awhile, but she%26#039;ll probably grow out of it. If it continues more than, say a year, consult a physician.
Reply:It is especially the skinnier people who have this problem. They tend to have more tension built up in their muscles. Because of the tension, their jaws have problems relaxing hence the grinding. My colleague has this problem and she went to the dentist who gave her a night prothese to put in when she goes to sleep. It prevents the teeth from getting in contact with each other.
Reply:She must be angry or talking in her dreams. It%26#039;s psychological, maybe how you treat her might change this.
Reply:bruxism can sometimes have a psychological stress component but this is too young an age for stresses, I would consider teeth guards at night if she continues to do this when she grors up, good luck
Reply:Theres nothing to worry about. Its just that she wants to be eating something always,i am also grinding my teeth too,i am 16 years old.

I have just recently started grinding my teeth when sleeping.?
I don%26#039;t do it hard enough to cause my teeth or jaw to ache, which is the case with a lot of people. I can%26#039;t afford a professionally made mouth guard right now. My question is, will a drugstore night guard be better than nothing, or could it cause even more problems? I started grinding because my wisdom teeth grew in and threw off my alignment, but I have had them removed recently. Does anyone have expereince with the drugstore brands. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!!

I bought one from walmart ( I am a horrible grinder) that you mold to your teeth. It was $30 and it works perfect. Make sure you get the right size- I bought a large one by accident and I needed a small....it was a little much to take in! LOL
They only had one brand at walmart and I am assuming this would be the lowest price too.
Reply:I%26#039;ve heard, but do not know, that buying a sports mouthguard is better than nothing if you grind.
Reply:Drugstore%26#039;s Nightguards PERFECTLY fine. Better than nothing right. Some are even gummy and fit your smile and you can find them at Wal-Mart and stuff. They are cheap but help a lot!
Reply:this could be a temporary occurance. For the time being i would by a mouthguard from a nearby drugstore. The small cost of this item definately outways the the possible negative consequences.
Hope this helps!!!
Reply:The drug store type is better than nothing for sure. They%26#039;re comfortable if you follow the drrections for molding them to your mouth and they prevent more damage to your teeth. Go to the dentest when you can afford it, but in the meantime, get one from the store.
Reply:Get the drugstore one. I used one until I had the money to buy an NTI from my dentist.
Reply:I have recently spoken to my dentist about this and he said the drugstore type are just as good for protecting your teeth...the thing is get one you boil to make soft and then put in your nouth to mold to your teeth.....Good Luck!
Reply:I use the drugstore brand, it helps...
I do not bite so hard when I use that.
It stops the pain...
I grind my teeth and make my teeth abcess when I am upset.
I have found that I bite in my sleep when I am upset when my husband is hiding money from me...
You have a real reason to be upset...if you are biting..the subconscious does not lie....and don%26#039;t let anyone invalidate your awareness....
but don%26#039;t run to a Psychiatrist...so they can drug you...
just find out what you are REALLY upset about...and fix it...if you have to divorce..then do it...you will wind up with a mouth empty...of teath...and you won%26#039;t be attractive to them...anyway...and then will loose them anyway...
If it is someone taking advantage of you...stand up for yourself...someone borrowing money off of you and not paying it back....criticizing you...invalidating and putting you down.....making you wrong for anything...and everything...
or are you making yourself wrong for something...
Be nice to yourself...go through all the relationships in your life...and examine them...if they are destroying you...eliminate them...your life will be simplier...and HAPPIER...
sometimes you have to change your life financially...
but what you loose...something BETTER ALWAYS COMES ALONG........and you will have beautiful teeth...!!!
Try the drugstore brand...if it does not work, then you can go get the professional one...they almost look the same anyway..
If you can find a CRANIAL SACRIAL therapist...get them to work on the alignment of your skull and jaw...they have straightened mine so effectively that my bite it better and I do not have any trouble in a year now.....you can find them in the phone book, or look on the web pages for one in your area....
If you are in the Dallas Texas area..there one of the highest trained ones Sandy Hanney 469-438-8634
She has also relieved a lot of pain in my body as well...through the years.......

Could I be grinding my teeth at night?
When I wake up in the morning my teeth are all REALLY sore when I bite down! Especially the ones in the back, could I be grinding them without knowing it?
Could I be grinding my teeth at night?
You could be grinding them while sleeping. On your next visit to your dentist address this with him and he should be able to tell you if you are or not. If you are they do have guards you can wear at night.
Reply:I don%26#039;t think that bruxism or night grinding can make your teeth really that sore. Go to your dentist you maybe suffering periodontal problems.
Reply:you may very well be, but it can also be that you are clenchig your teeth whe you are dreamig. It could also be t6hat you have periodotal problems (the gums). The best thig for you to probably do would be to go to the dentist. What you could try is going to a pharmacy and buy a night guard and see if it is i fact that you are grinding them. If you have little to no pain, that may be what it is.
Reply:It is totally possible! I just found out that I grind at night and had no knowledge of it. You also may be clenching your teeth as well.
Get with your dentist. If you are grinding or clenching they will be able to make you something to wear at night.
I let it go on so long, my teeth are actually begining to wear out, so get this taken care of as soon as possible.
Reply:Yes! Go to the dentist as soon as you can. The longer you wait the more your enamel(shiny, protective coating) will wear down.

Why am i grinding my teeth while im asleep?
My dentist says i am grinding my teeth whilst asleep. Why is this ? Also why have i started to snore ?
Why am i grinding my teeth while im asleep?
Grinding the teeth, or bruxism as it is officially termed, is a serious dental condition in which the sufferer grinds his or her teeth during sleep. Though many are not aware that they are grinding their teeth during the night, bruxism can damage the teeth and jaw and cause headaches and facial soreness. To prevent such problems, it is important to do everything one can to stop grinding the teeth during sleep.
Unfortunately, there is no surefire way to stop grinding the teeth. Since it happens when the sufferer is unconscious, he or she has minimal control over the behavior. The most common remedy is a mouthguard or splint which prevents damage to the teeth, though it does not necessarily stop grinding behavior. Therefore, headaches and jaw soreness may persist.
A mouthguard used to treat bruxism may be custom-fitted, either through a dentist visit or by using a kit at home to make a mold of the teeth. There are also over-the-counter one-size-fits-most versions, but they do not fit as well and may be less comfortable for some users. Different patients have different experiences with mouthguards. Some find that it helps them stop grinding the teeth, while others grind their teeth more when wearing a mouthguard. For others, the mouthguard is initially effective, but becomes less so over time.
Other ways to reduce or stop grinding the teeth include reducing stress and consciously relaxing during the day and before bed, learning the correct positions in which to hold the jaw and tongue, and limiting alcohol intake. It is important to achieve adequate amounts of sleep and exercise as well. To treat jaw and muscle pain associated with bruxism, try massage and heat applications to the affected areas. Keep the teeth separated and the jaw relaxed during the day, and avoid hard or chewy foods.
In extreme and persistent cases, orthodontic adjustments or surgery may be the only way to stop grinding the teeth. While psychological and muscle memory causes are possible, bruxism may also be caused by misaligned teeth. Surgery is considered a last resort to stop grinding the teeth. However, if you know or suspect that you suffer from bruxism, it is important to see a dentist as soon as possible to prevent irreversible damage to the teeth. He or she will be able to help you find the best ways for you to stop grinding your teeth.
Reply:A lot of us do it!! Get a niteguard. You put like 75 lbs. at least on your teeth when you grind them. And eventually it could cause some serious problems like eroding away your teeth from the constant pressure and pains in your upper and lower jaw!! so...get a niteguard asap. If you can%26#039;t afford a custom one from you dentist get one of those universal ones from the store.
Reply:Grinding is about you being nervous and stressed. Snoring is for the same reason. Relax.
Reply:you might not have enough sleep.
Reply:Most people grind/clench their teeth while asleep. Get a soft acrylic nightguard at your dental office. You will notice a huge difference in the morning. I wear mine every night, if I don%26#039;t I wake up with a neck and shoulder ache and my lower teeth hurt like hell. It will save your teeth from wear and tear and also from receding gumline. I saw an episode of extreme makeover, and the dentist said that when people get older their teeth get shorter, he never explained why and it%26#039;s because they grind their teeth down. I have 23yrs experience RDA,
Reply:You have something on your mind that is bothering you.Have you been taking cold and flu remedies containing ephredrine or such? This can also have the same effect. As for snoring..it just be your turn in life..alcohol also causes snoring. You could see your Doctor.
Reply:your snoring because you have a nasal resistance to allergines that have finally have taken over your well being..you grind your teeth because you can%26#039;t stop eating sweets during the day so your body has a natural defense mechanism to rid your teeth of the issue while you sleep because you refuse to brush before you go to bed!
Reply:Regarding snore : You are suffering from Sinusitis, gp to a ENT Specialist. Dental = follow these :
Dental care %26amp; mouth care.
After every meal, chew a little salt and gargle with water. Soft brush can be used to clean the particles caught between the teeth and the gums. Make it habit to clean the teeth every morning and before retiring to bed. In India, people use thin twig of a Babul, Banyan or a Neem tree (known as Datoon) as a brush. First it is to be crushed to make it soft and then use it like a brush. It is advisable to us a Datoon of Babul, Banyan or Neem tree at least once a day.

14 month old grinding her teeth!?
My 1 year old daughter will not stop grinding her teeth! She does it during the day. I have no idea why or how to stop it. She doesn%26#039;t do it out of anger she just walks around and occasionally i%26#039;ll hear it. I%26#039;m telling you, it%26#039;s nails on a chalkboard! She also never does this in her sleep. Any suggestions?
14 month old grinding her teeth!?
She could be having more teeth trying to come in. You could give her something to chew on to ease her gums. Maybe a teething ring that reaches to the back?
Reply:Ive heard of the same thing. Your dentist will supply a mouth gaurd for when she sleeps.
Reply:I would see a dentist because that may be damaging to her teeth
Reply:my son did the same thing, it did stop he is 10 now and doesnt do that any more.
Reply:My child ground his teeth at a later age. He did it because he was curious of the funny sound. We took his attention out of it with better toys. (I tried showing him that I could do it, too, but that didn%26#039;t help; teeth-grinding became play.) Chewing gums did give him caries.
Reply:you can get a mouth guard but my dentist told me there is a chance u cant sleep with it... sorry there is no cure. i still do it in my sleep
Reply:When kids have worms they usually grind their teeth. U should check 2 c if she has it. Check out the website kidshealth.org 4 more info.
Reply:It is completely normal. She has new teeth(maybe not new but she see them as new) and is learning new things about them. She has found out that they make noise when she does that. She should grow out of it. My little boy is 3 and he just grew out of it.
It does sound bad, I know. When you hear her do it just tell her to stop. It didn%26#039;t help my son but over time and hearing stop over and over again she will quit. If for some reason she doesn%26#039;t stop over the next couple years see a dentist.
Reply:my son also does this all the time, our pediatrician told us this is their way of applying pressure to reduce pain of teething, so if thats true then she%26#039;s probably getting some more teeth. good luck
Reply:My kid was the same way and my pediatrician told me that it could be stress which proved to be true. she would grind her teeth if her sinus felt blocked, if she felt bored from being cooped up in the house all day or just plain tired.
my solution was to check to see if she might be coming down with a cold, find activities to entertain her or give her a snuggle and put her to bed.
your situation may be different so i would suggest you observe her and see what she might be reacting to. good luck.
oh yes, i almost forgot, it could be intestinal worms also.
