Question about Guard for grinding my teeth a night?

ok, well my dentist says my teeth have shown grinding and i%26#039;m only 15. about a week ago where i had a filling it started to hurt really bad when ever a drank anything or air got blown on it. so i went to the dentist today to have my filling redone because they tried to put a sielent on it and it didn%26#039;t work. but last night the other side started to hurt when i ate and brushed my teeth. i told my dentist this and he says i probably grind my teeth at night. but i never feel it like my jaw never hurts or any other pains that are normal. So he is putting me in a mouth guard to stop the grinding do you think this is going to work? or is my dentist just getting money out of my parents?

Question about Guard for grinding my teeth a night?
okay - had the same concerns. go to KMart and get a nite gaurd from the sporting goods section - they are like $3. get two in case you don%26#039;t set the other one up properly. try itfor a couple weeks. if it works - get the one from the dentist. i help off for years thinking -- he%26#039;s nuts ; ) then it started getting worse. while i never realized i%26#039;d grindee mid grind my jaw locked - the pain was unreal AND i had to forcibally push my jaw back to center.

honest - i don%26#039;t htink he%26#039;s trying to bilk you or your folks out of money - he;s trying to save you some!!!
Reply:i grind my teeth as well so i just bought one of those mouth guards that basketball players wear for like $5-$10 and wear it when i sleep at night... in my case, the guard should act like cartilage and chewing on that should be better than grinding teeth on teeth.
Reply:Mouth Guard does work. Not only it reduces damage that your teeth recieve, but it also causes you to stop the habit. After you put on the mouth guard and you are grindingyour teeth, it will feel like you are chewing on rubber- something the is soft.
