Grinding my teeth?

For months now I woke myself up grinding my teeth at night when im sleeping. also a little during the day. is there a reason people do this???

Grinding my teeth?
Hi Kitty, bruxism or teeth grinding is one of most damaging forms of dental disorders. Although teeth grinding can be caused by stress and anxiety, it often occurs during sleep and is more likely caused by an abnormal bite or missing or crooked teeth. Because grinding often occurs during sleep, most people are unaware that they grind their teeth. However, a dull, constant headache or sore jaw is a telltale symptom of bruxism. Many times people learn that they grind their teeth by their loved one who hears the grinding at night. This condition is very common among children but it is not only restricted to them. It is a very common problem among people with Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

My advice is talk to your dentist. He or she can examine your mouth and jaw for signs of bruxism, such as jaw tenderness and abnormalities in your teeth.

You also can use home remedies for Bruxism:

1. Before retiring to bed you can chew on an apple, cauliflower or carrot. This will calm your overactive mouth and prevent grinding.

Reply:yeah...they do it when their on drugs or want drugs....been doing drugs have we?

mhhmmmm
Reply:It depends on what doctor you see.. there are varying opinions.

The one I happened to see said it is the equivalent of a very very mild seizure at night.

You should try something to fix it.. constant grinding at night can lead to jaw pain in the day.. then facial pain.. sometimes neck and head pain. It can cause bad neurological problems that have to be %26quot;reset%26quot; to relieve pain. That is what I had done. Grinding teeth can be the source of many many seemingly unrelated problems.

Fix it quick.
Reply:I often do it during particularly stressful times, but some people just do for no real reason. If it is really bad, you should see your dentist and he/she can get you a mouthguard. If you%26#039;re like me, your jaw can get extremely sore, so this might help.
Reply:not only drugs, I%26#039;ve been doing it all my life, and I%26#039;ve never done drugs, and my dad does too, so it might be hereditary (sp?) so yeah, just get a mouth guard for night though so that you don%26#039;t run your teeth down to much.
Reply:no people do not do it when they are on DRUGS u stupid head im 10 years old and have been grinding my teeth since i was 3.
Reply:stress probably. try fixing it, it could damage your teeth.
Reply:Grinding your teeth at night is a condition called bruxism. This is really not an uncommon problem. There is really no specific reason people have bruxism that I know of. My boyfriend suffers from bruxism, and I think it may be from stress sometimes. The best thing that you can do is go to Wal-Mart or a pharmacy and get a mouth guard. Dentek puts out a good, quality mouth guard especially for people with bruxism. If you don%26#039;t get a guard, you can cause extensive damage to your teeth. As far as grinding your teeth during the day, that sounds like stress, anxiousness, or anxiety.
