How to get a 4 year old child to stop grinding his teeth?

The other night there was a loud storm and our 4 year old was scared and came into bed with us. I%26#039;m usually a fairly sound sleeper, however he was grinding his teeth so loud at one point it woke me up. How can we get him to stop grinding his teeth?

Take your child to the dentist. If you don%26#039;t correct it now, you will have MAJOR dental bills later on.
Reply:go see your orthodontist right away, this is a real problem that needs to be fixed right away
Reply:retainer - that%26#039;s what my little cousin got
Reply:a football mouthpiece works 4 me there avalialable in small sizes
Reply:Show him a picture of horrible teeth and tell him that is what will happen if he continues. Worked on me.
Reply:you can%26#039;t. but it would help if you bring him/her to the dentist. the dentist can make a plastic mold to fit into his/her teeth. this is acts like a protection dish to prevent him/her from destroying the teeth in the process of grinding. I know b%26#039;cos my stepdaughter wears one.
Reply:It depends on if he is doing it while sleeping or while he is awake, if while sleeping you should take him to a dentist to get a mouth thing that keeps him from grinding while sleeping, if whild awake tell him not to and tell him the effects it can have later in life, and try to find somthing to take his mind of doing it while awake!
Reply:If you manage it let me know. I have ground my teeth since I was a child. I go buy one of those sports mouth pieces. They are cheep, you put them in boiling water to soften the plastic, let it cool a bit and put it in your mouth and mold it to your mouth. You might consider this as an option because your child%26#039;s mouth will change a lot in the next few years and you don%26#039;t want to have to pay out for the dentist to custom fit every six months or so. I have good insurance and it still cost me close to $500 every time I had to get a new one. After I lost the second that%26#039;s when I found out about these and started using them. Good luck to you and your child. I have been considering calling a hypnotist because it is subconscious and I can%26#039;t will myself to stop. I have recently found out I have two cracked teeth from doing this. Granted I%26#039;m in my thirty%26#039;s but if I could have stopped as a child I wouldn%26#039;t need to go as often as I do.
Reply:There is no way to stop it, as it%26#039;s done subconciously. You should talk to his dentist about having a nightguard/brux guard made for him. The earlier, the better. I have had teeth grinding problems(bruxism) my whole life(I%26#039;m 36), and only got a brux guard a year ago, and it has made such a difference. I have some serious permanent damage to my teeth due to the nighttime grinding.
