Does stress contribute to grinding your teeth at night?

Usually I don%26#039;t grind my teeth, but lately I have been doing it horribly! My jaw is soar through out the day because of me constantly doing it at night. Is stress a contributer of it? How can I stop from grinding my teeth? Is there maybe something I can put in my mouth to help me stop from grinding?

Does stress contribute to grinding your teeth at night?
Yes. I believe a dentist can give you a night guard, or you can buy one at the drugstore, but grinding a lot - like I do - ultimately loosens your teeth and messes them up and puts a lot of stress on your jaw, gives you headaches and all that. I think talking regularly is the best thing and I%26#039;m not kidding. Use your mouth a lot for normal things and you will find that the desire to grind goes away. I loosened most my teeth over 30 yrs.
Reply:Stress can cause people to grind teeth. Picture this if you sit and punch the wall lightly your fist does not hurt right, But over time and constant motion you fist will start to hurt. I would either go to your dentist and get a mouth gaurd made (usually not covered by insurance, It is also the best way to go about) or go to a drug store and buy one over the counter they are usually $20 or so but they can be bigger and bulkier. I would suggest trying option 2 frist to see if it does help, if it does get one perfessionaly made
Reply:Stress does contribute to teeth grinding. Its because your muscles are more tense when you are stressed out, there for you grind your teeth more. Definaelty look into a mouth guard. You can also try massaging your jaw muscles right before bes to help relieve some of the tension.
Reply:Yes, it does
Reply:It is said that stress is a factor in bruxism or dental grinding, it%26#039;s not really known for sure exactly what causes the grinding, only what we can do to relieve it. Talk to your dentist, he can fabricate a night guard that is worn at night during sleep which keeps the pressure from grinding off the surface of the teeth and prevents further damage to the enamel. This will also help reduce the head aches and jaw aches associated with TMJ disorder, Bruxism or dental grinding and clenching.
