My boyfriend wakes up periodically through the night and said for this past week I have been grinding my teeth very hard when im asleep. I had no idea, why does this usually occur? And my teeth are starting to hurt, What are the bad effects that can happen if it persists?

I have the same problem - it%26#039;s stress. I have ground down my back teeth, they can crack also, cause caries. For the past 5 years I sleep with a night time mouth guard, to prevent the grinding. Do you have headaches? I suggest you see a dentist that specializes in TMJ. That was my diagnosis, my dentist made my night guard and it helps!

Reply:think it%26#039;s called bruxism, it is due to stress, dentist told me to have a glass of wine at night, but I don%26#039;t like wine.
