My 8 Month old won't stop grinding his teeth?

What can i do to help him stop grinding his teeth? he got his first 2 teeth on bottom when he was 6 months old and now he is getting his top 2 teeth and he grinds them.. will this hurt his teeth??

My 8 Month old won%26#039;t stop grinding his teeth?
he will be fine. Its a new sensation, he needs to explore what his teeth can do. Be sure to give him plenty of things to chew on to try out his teeth!
Reply:I think its just a phase they all go through at some point or another, my son did it for about 8 weeks and has never done it sense

Now he is starting to bite his nails at 19mo%26#039;s GGGGRRRR
Reply:oh! my son does this too!!!

drives me UP the wall!!!

i just pucker his cheeks together and say %26quot;no%26quot; whenever he does it.

the pushing cheeks together makes him stop and makes him think about what he was just doing.
Reply:he will be fine it just that he is teething and he is gettin used to the new sensations
Reply:My dd did this too, around 8 months. My pediatrician said this is what people mean when they say %26quot;cutting teeth%26quot;. Baby is literally using his first 2 bottom teeth to help the top teeth come in. It%26#039;s normal, and baby will stop once his teeth are in...until he teethes again.

To comfort him, try Hyland%26#039;s Teething Tablets http://www.hylands.com/products/teething... You can find them at Publix, Giant, Walmart, Target, etc.

Also, my dd likes frozen carrots, celery, broccoli stalks (not the tops) and frozen washcloths. We%26#039;ve never needed those plastic teething toys (that are usually made in China...you know about that whole scare of course)
Reply:Teeth grinding is normal for toddlers because they are teething and their gums hurt.

Normally grinding does not damage baby teeth, and is rarely considered a problem until age 5 or 6.
Reply:no it doesn%26#039;t damage his teeth. it is a soothing mechanism for babies. it doesn%26#039;t affect his permanent teeth either. babies sometime do this until they turn one, sometimes longer. there is no %26quot;cure%26quot; for it but if it makes you feel better you could take him to visit a pediatric dentist. thumb sucking is the worst thing for infants/toddlers teeth next to sugar. if that is going on then consult your family dentist.

p.s. I work for a pediatric dentist and my daughter did it when she was smaller...
Reply:Mine also did that for the longest time. I forget exactly how old he was though. It would drive me crazy. It sounded like s/one taking their fingernails and scratching them on the chalkboard. I thought he would grind them off too or chip them, but they never did and now he is 2. I guess it feels good for them to do that when they are cutting teeth. He finally quit doing that %26amp; I was so thankful. Plus he knew it bothered me too. Good luck, it will soon pass too.
Reply:It is called Bruxism and is normal. Also, don%26#039;t use Hyland%26#039;s teething tablets - they contain caffeine.
Reply:My son does this too. Started around the same time. I distract him by blowing a puff of air in his face, this makes him laugh and stops him from grinding his teeth. This seems to distract him just enough that he will forget about his teeth and go on to something else.
Reply:Always have something avaible for him to chew on!!
