My Hamster is Grinding her teeth?

So, My syrian hamster cassie is bitting on her cage in one specific spot. Then after she makes the wierd grinding noise with her teeth. After that i take her out to see what it is but she doesnt do it. Then i took her out once and her to bottom teeth were scratching her front teeth.... wierd %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

Make sure she has plenty of chew toys (wood sticks and unflavored dog biscuits). Hamsters chew their bars for numerous reasons, including:


1. Boredom. Provide toys and puzzles (treats wrapped in toilet paper, shred-a-box treats, etc.)


2. No other source to wear down teeth.


3. Anxiety/excessive energy. A wheel and hideaway hut are absolute must haves for every rodent.





If she persists even with chew toys, puzzles, wheel, and hideout in her cage, you%26#039;ll want to move her into a glass aquarium/terrarium cage without bars. Excessive bar chewing is dangerous to their health, as they eat and digest the paint, and the repetitive motion often leads to brain damage.





Grinding her teeth could be her try to scrap the paint from her teeth. Some hamsters do this when content, but most actually do it when stressed. Her bottom teeth should be longer than her top, but the top should lay over the bottom and line up together. She may have overgrown teeth or misaligned them with bar-chewing. A vet visit to have them trimmed would be needed.

Reply:Biting the bars mean that the Hams bored. But there isnt alot you can do about that, most hamsters do it regardless of how many toys you give them. My hams chewed their bars also, it%26#039;s not too good for them, I believe I read that it can cause brain damage. However it has never cropped up in my hams, although one did get saggy lips, and now drools alot xD; Anyhow, try giving her other things to chew, that sound you hear after they have chewed the bars happened all the time with mine, no worries.
