Why am I grinding my teeth ?

IS THERE A DOCTOR OUT THERE WHO COULD ANSWER THIS FOR ME PLEASE ?I had 3 ops for skin cancer in September and am healing well and to my knowledge am not stressed or worrying about anything. But since then I have started grinding my teeth in my sleep severely enough to either wake me or give me toothache the following day. I have heard that sleeping medication or muscle relaxants would prevent this, but I already take amytryptaline at night plus I smoke cannabis before bed some evenings and this still doesn%26#039;t stop it ... any ideas anyone ??

Why am I grinding my teeth ?
Try meditation before bed.

I think you have unconfronted issues of anxiety - you say that you don%26#039;t worry, but you had cancer, so it%26#039;s pretty unnatural not to worry in such a situation. Sooner or later you%26#039;ll have to face your fears, even though your attitude is very positive, please allow yourself to admitt this small weakness. You may also want to try counselling.
Reply:Ask your dentist for a nightguard - it%26#039;s a device you put on your teeth at night to prevent your teeth from wearing out.
Reply:STRESS!!
Reply:it sounds like you have tmj, now i can%26#039;t remember the meaning but i know that it stands for what you have and that%26#039;s a jaw condition, an otolaryngologist (e.n.t. MD) can probably help you or a dentist. you can also help yourself by wearing an oral guard kind of like the ones used during sports so you wont hurt yourself. just a thought.
Reply:you say that youre not stressed,but when you are asleep a different part of your brain is analysing your every day life.So def stress and you are not aware of it
Reply:What you can do is go to the dentist and get a lower mouth guard which is like a gum-shield but on your bottom teeth. This will have the effect of stopping the pain in your teeth and it will train you not to grind your teeth.
Reply:The easiest way to solve this is to get a mouth gaurd from your dentist, a drug free solution and very effective...;
Reply:when you sleep you wont know your grinding your teeth
Reply:yes u can get a mouth guard to protect ur teeth but have u had a lot of sugar in ur diet recently coz that can irritate ur teeth, i used to grind mine because of that!
Reply:I have grinded my teeth all of my life... i havent found a cure for it yet... everyday i hae toothache and jaw ache plus at the moment my wisdom teeth are coming through so it makes matters alot worse... i woud suggest a sleepguard.
