Headaches caused by grinding teeth?

I find that when I%26#039;m stressed I will grind my teeth - or of course when I have too much caffine. I have also noticed headaches that are dull and throbbing - I%26#039;m assuming the two are connected, but Ibuprofen doesn%26#039;t help. What can help me get rid of the pain?

Headaches caused by grinding teeth?
Well you didn%26#039;t mention your Temporal Mandibular joint. So I%26#039;m going to assume it OK. Do a google search for the anatomy of the Temporalis Muscle. You%26#039;ll see it%26#039;s a very thin fan shaped muscle attached to your mandible. Use pressure point massage in the area of the attachments between your eyebrowns, toward the temples, and above the ears this should help with the migrain type pain of the temporalis muscle caused by excesive grinding. I have patients who suffer from migraines that swear by it.

Reply:valuim will calm you down so you stop grinding your teeth. and off the top of my head i would say to stop drinking so much coffe, that MAY help.
Reply:Disorder of the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) causing pain usually in front of the ear. Pain in the TMJ can be due to trauma (such as a blow to the face), inflammatory or degenerative arthritis, or by the mandible being pushed back towards the ears whenever the patient chews or swallows. Sometimes, muscles around the TMJ used for chewing can go into spasm, causing head and neck pain and difficulty opening the mouth normally.
Reply:You won%26#039;t solve this problem with medication. Try a nightguard, which is available in drug stores (e.g., CVS) and molds onto your teeth. It will not allow you to grind anymore. If that doesn%26#039;t work, you should see a dentist who is a TMJ specialist.
Reply:You should probably go to your dentist and talk about having a nightguard made. It will save your teeth from wear and help with headaches from grinding. You can get a mouthguard from a drug store--but they will be bulkier and you will wear them out faster.

Reply:I grind my teeth slightly during the day, but moreso at night. I used to wake up every morning with severe pain in my jaw and headaches most of the day. Purchase something called a %26quot;Stress Guard%26quot;, or any mouth guard will do in all actuality. You may look silly wearing it during the day, so simply wear it at night when you%26#039;re sleeping. I wear mine every night and it is a God-send! I never wake up with jaw pain and haven%26#039;t had a headache in almost a month. It really makes all the difference in the world and isn%26#039;t expensive at all.
Reply:You bet!

See your dentist.
