My baby is grinding his teeth!?

My son is a year old and he%26#039;s now got 6 teeth. A couple more are about to come through.

He%26#039;s started grinding them all the time and the sound goes right through me! I%26#039;m worried he%26#039;s going to damage his teeth by doing this as well. Is there any cause for concern? I don%26#039;t know why he%26#039;s doing this.

My baby is grinding his teeth!?
lol i was so pleased to read this my 9 month old son has just started this and it drives me crazy,

trouble with us was we tried to get him to stop, giving him a biscuit, toy even putting my finger in between the teeth but now he thinks its a game so every time he comes for a cuddle he does it!

they will stop its just something else they have learned to do

its NOTHING to worry about

im sure 1 of my other kids use to do this lets face it there is no real way to stop them apart from remove the teeth! sadly thats not an option
Reply:seriously, go get a bottle of scrotch and put a drop on your finger and rub in the area. works everytime---no lie either
Reply:that mean he wants something or it may run in the family
Reply:means he/she is nervous. Why don%26#039;t you consult your GP?
Reply:my daughter used to do thats it wasn%26#039;t to often just like a phase
Reply:Some kids do. He probably need to bite something; the bitting usually helps teeth to come out. When he does that (and otherwise), you can give him hard bread to bite, a small piece that he can hold in his hand. It%26#039;s not unhealthy and usually helps ( and it%26#039;ll keep him busy for a while ;) ).
Reply:well if more are coming in and he is teething the gums are itchy and grinding the teeth he has against the gum area is making him feel better.

But it is bad, and you should put a stop to it, doing it to rough can wear don the teeth and at this age they form habits quickly.

Try pacifiers. Or, get a guard from the dentist fitted for a baby
Reply:Nothing to worry about.

Your baby is teething and grinding is normal.

Apply some Bonjela to ease the noise and its soothing for the babys gums.

you can always ring your dentist and check with him.
Reply:My son went through a phase of that too. I asked a nurse and she said some will do it--just to experiment with their teeth. She said not to worry about it. He stopped within a few months of starting and I haven%26#039;t noticed any wear or damage on his teeth from it. If he%26#039;s one who likes a pacifier, you could let him use that more often.

That%26#039;s my experience/opinion about it. Never hurts to ask a doctor.
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry. Its completely normal. Its because he%26#039;s growing new teeth, its a natural instinct to help them cut through. Most kids do it to some degree. Don%26#039;t go thinking its a stress thing, it is for adults but not for babies.
Reply:I%26#039;m a night grinder myself. Usually do to stress.

As far as your child. GET HIM TO THE DENTIST LIKE YESTERDAY!

The damage he can be causing not just to his teeth but to his gums as well can be irreversable.

I have a reseading gum line because i grind my teeth, i%26#039;ve cracked a few teeth and had to have them pulled out.

So yes there is lots to be concerned about.
Reply:I have 6 younger brothers. Most of them did that at some stage in thier babyhood. It won%26#039;t damage the babies teeth and he%26#039;s soon stop doing it.

Give him something to chew on, maybe something that makes a noise.

He%26#039;ll be doing it for 1 of 3 reasons.

1. He%26#039;s bored

2. It gets your attention

3. He likes the noise it makes.

Remember baby teeth only last 6 years or so, so even if it damaged his teeth (which I can assure you it doesn%26#039;t) then he%26#039;ll get new ones anyway.

But try not to worry, he%26#039;s experimenting with new things. If grinding his teeth gets your attention then he will keep doing it so try to ignore it.
Reply:My niece grinds her teeth, the best thing is giving them something they can bite on whether its food or a toy, then she forgets about it. My sister did take her to the doctors but they said it is nothing to worry about it is just a phase some kids go through and to just try and give her something different to bite and chew on.
