I grind my teeth in my sleep, and have a tendancy to clench my jaw, also when I%26#039;m awake I do it subconsiously, is there anything I can do to stop it?
How to stop grinding teeth and jaw clenching?
You can go to your dentist and tell him about this problem. He/She can make a mouth guard for you. Some health insurances pay for it. Also talk to someone or find techniques that can help relieve stress.
Reply:go to the drug store and buy a mouth guard, u boil it in hot water to soften then bit on it to mold to your mouth and pkace it in when u got to sleep it helps but its caused by stress I heard or read
Reply:you can wear a special mouthguard for when you go to sleep. it seperates your top and bottom teeth, like a sports mouthguard
Reply:they highly recommend mouth guards now a days, this will help to protect your teeth from clenching and grinding. it is VERY damaging to your teeth, you can chip and crack your teeth not to mention grind them down to nubs! if you crack a tooth and it cracks the root, you%26#039;ll loose the tooth, there%26#039;s no way to save it:( also you can develop tmj in your jaw joints. this can make it painful to chew, open and close your mouth and it can even get locked open in some cases, and you;ll need dental assistance to get it undone. of course this is in an extreme case. but if you go to the dentist regularly just ask about a mouth guard and maybe even make an appt for this. it%26#039;s simple, you%26#039;ll go in and they%26#039;ll put putty in your mouth and make impressions of your teeth and then you%26#039;ll come back in about two weeks and they%26#039;ll give you the mouth guard. i would say that you can request a bottom one they are less visible and stay in your mouth better. especially if you%26#039;re wearing it in the day for clenching, as well as in the night for grinding.
Reply:Go see your Dentist and ask for a Night Guard. It should be for your lower arch and hard on the outside soft on the inside.
This will safe you from future damage. You%26#039;ll find that your jaw will relax and if you experience Head aches, they%26#039;ll lighten up.
Reply:Having an occlusal guard (night guard) made at your dental office is an effective way to alleviate your symptoms. It will keep your teeth out of contact, eliminating the grinding, and it will also keep your muscles from fully contracting while clenching.
